If this is the 10% cancellation fee, can be waived/refunded if it's the seller's fault, it's applied by default for cancelled projects, so if you don't claim it you won't get it.

    Read the terms page https://www.peopleperhour.com/static/terms

    > 6. Cancellations and refunds > 6.2 Job Refund policy

...In case a Buyer is entitled to a refund, the Buyer receives the funds requested according to Section 6.2.1 minus a refund fee equal to 10% of the requested amount. The refund fee is waived in case the Seller is at fault for the refund per Section 6.2.2.

    Hi Jagdish,

I think PPH obviously has huge overheads and costs to pay as a company. PPH is brilliant becuase it connects thousands of buyers and sellers to each other a day, obviously most of those connections lead to completed work with both sides being happy.

Yet on the rare occasion such as yours, a freelancer does not complete the work and a refunded is issued. Now I see your fustration as you are back to square one and short a small % of the refund. Yet PPH have still incurred costs in the same way it would have if this specific job has gone through smoothly, I think that it why you pay the service fee either way as its paying for the upkeep and service usually good but rarely bad.

In short, PPH still has to pay for the payment processing and general admin of all of this, plus the man hours to investigate. Which leads me on, I hope you do not experience this in the future so would urge you to ensure anyone you hire for work has excellent recent feedback and you ensure they fully understand not only the task in hand but the time it needs to be delivered by in the stream prior to kicking the work off.

I hope that tip will save you any hassle in the future, and I hope it explains a little where the % service fee went. I know PPH occasionally offer out discount codes on your next job via email occasionally so hopefully that will counter it out if you do get one in the near future.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

No Doubt, PPH is a wonderful community and I really like PPH as compared to UPWORK, GURU and other escrow sites due to the user-friendly interface. I also understand that company has huge expense to cover. But as per my understanding, most of the escrow sites revenue model is of earning commission on project cost. Also, there is a processing fee involved in payment while buying Hourlie for buyer and withdrawal fee involved while withdrawing for freelancers.

% service fee looks small  & negligible when project cost is of a lesser amount. This is not the scenario when you are dealing with services ranging from $800 to $2k. Many of the times, Freelancers bid the work, take the project, waste days and then they refund it. Buyer is already at the loss as days is wasted with incomplete work + the added frustration of % service fee deducted.

He trusted PPH for his project but it failed. What mistake buyer made here?

I myself is a Seller more than being a Buyer. As an advice Why not incur refund service fee equally to both Buyer and Freelancer 50 - 50? This way Freelancers will be serious in taking only those which he/she is confident.

Or you might find the customer support ninjas prefer to keep it despite the policy above, until you ask for it.

There are a lot of idiots - who promise and even without reading task offer prepayment .... a lot of so called freelancers cant do anything. They have only good profiles .... I will never make prepayment anyone here..  bcoz 90 % freelancers are IDIOTS. Freelancers should be happy - if i will hire them without any prepayment.
