20% fee plus 20% vat - seriously?!

The PPH fee is getting ridiculous! Taking 20% fee plus 20% vat from a very small project is just criminal. You are deducting 40% at source. Then of course the tax man wishes to deduct a further 20% for tax and a further 12% for national insurance.  This then equates to 72% of the project fee, before the freelancers time, materials and expertise is taking into consideration.  This means that the freelancer is constantly working at a complete loss! Utterly criminal!

  Couldn't agree more.

  No wonder the site is awash with fake jobs - very few genuine clients can afford to do much more than kick tyres and find out the market rate.

  Especially when now you get a £2.50 invoice charge on top. Even my clients think its wrong.  
  
  Some jobs in my sector are only put in for £20 so its not worth doing it for £13.50
