Hi all, thanks for reaching out and sharing your concerns with us - we appreciate your feedback.

Rachel, we're sorry to hear about the notifications. We've recently been forced to make a change to our message notifications so that you only receive these by email if your email notification settings are set to important. We can see yours are actually set to essential. You can change this by going to settings in your PPH account, then going to notifications, and ticking the important check box. This should resolve this issue for you. This is something that has happened very quickly and we will communicate more information about this soon.

Nancy, we're sorry to hear about the impact that our payment process and chat function removal has had on you.  We have made recent changes to the way customers can get in touch, which means chat support is no longer available. For any queries, please raise a support ticket with our team by following this link: http://support.peopleperhour.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

You can also read more about contacting customer support here.

In regards to payments, as a rapidly growing business, we have to follow stricter regulations and complete more checks before we can release payments that are made through our platform in order to protect our users. We can assure you that our processes, terms and conditions, and actions, all comply with current law.

The length of your clearing period will be determined by how much you have earned on PeoplePerHour in the previous two calendar months. This ranges from 3 days to 14 days. Following the clearing period, all withdrawal requests will be processed by the PeoplePerHour team within 2 working days.

You will be able to see your current clearing period on your profile. Head to Actions >> View Earnings and go to Control Panel. You can also read more about the different clearing periods and criteria here. Unfortunately, we're not able to change this process - we apologise for any frustration caused.

Adam, thanks for sharing this with us and we're sorry to hear about your experience. We can see your ticket in the system and we have re-escalated this to the support team to look into this for you. We have also done the same for Rachel & Nancy.

We appreciate your patience and understanding and hopefully, we can get these issues resolved as soon as possible.

    Best wishes,

    The Community Team

Yes, PPH - totally endorse Rachel's experience.  Plus, we really cannot provide an effective service to clients now there's no chat facility with you.  Raising a ticket means a week for a response.  That response is generally a cut and paste one.

There is a lack of jobs here because you're not playing ball.  Why does it take 14 days to clear payments if I earn less than £1000, but only seven days if I earn more?  It cannot be about checks for fraud etc if it's based on what I earn.

Clients are now going to Upwork.  You are sabotaging our livelihoods.  Can we please work together to rescue this site as you ought to be concerned about your salaries too.

I agree I find workstreams are continually being blocked - no way to contact customers and I have to spend time contacting support who response times are sporadic at best leaving a poor experience for clients from the start.

Also I have many payments pending for 72 hours after a client has agreed to release from the escrow and then it still to be subjected to the usual ‘checks’ adding an additional 3 days with no explanation.

I was concerned when I received a notification recently to say I would not be getting an email to tell me there was an unread notification in the workstream. I have since changed my preferences, but I worry about what happens for a buyer. A regular problem for me is that buyers don't know that I have sent them a message in the workstream.

Also, picking up on Rachel's other question, where are all the jobs? I thought it was picking up a bit over the last few months but since the start of January it has been dead. 1600 projects available, in total, and worryingly, I stayed in the top 100 rankings for 2 weeks despite only taking two small payments. That suggests most people are not earning very much at the moment.

I tend to just sell my offers but the site is littered with scammers (both offers and job requests) and poor freelancers that I assume have put people off using the site.

I use to put requests on the job board and got some great freelancers but the last few attempts have just been scattered with Indians, Egyptians, Africans and Pakistanis just saying 'I can do it' and trying to charge UK agency prices. When you look at their profile 90% are fake (fake portfolio and main photo, usually of beautiful blond women), with offers for £10 where they will try and charge £200 (i.e leaflet design) for the same request. I notice many now have a dubious 2-3 reviews that gets them past a probationary period and resort to just plagiarising content (mine is copied on a daily basis)

The site has been really dumbed down on talent since COVID-19 and this is evident with the requests on the help centre. I feel sorry for some of the great freelancers as they are really being affected by this side hustle culture and PeoplePerHour should limit international sellers and focus getting people from the UK back on the site.

I usually do better with direct enquiries and even an offer that I had for a long time with no activity has generated some work recently. My work doesn't suit offers and I tried to add a couple more this month but one just couldn't get past the moderation because it is too vague and another didn't have a category that was even close. The buyers I speak to don't like posting projects because they get swamped with junk, as you describe. It is always "I can do it" without any indication that they have read the specification.

Now that you mention it, very little of my recent work has been in the UK. I'm not seeing any evidence that it has gone to Upwork because there was very little there last time I looked.
