Hi Nancy, thanks for getting in touch and making us aware. We have created a ticket with our product team to investigate this further - they will be in touch if they need any more information and with an update.

    Hi Nancy,

After receiving feedback from our community about the volume of email notifications we send, we’ve made an important change to help the community manage this.

Previously, if opted into “Essential” emails, you would receive an email notification for every unread workstream message you have on your PeoplePerHour account. To improve your experience, we’ve now categorised this type of email notification as “Important”, which means that you will no longer receive these emails.

If these unread message notifications are important to allow you to respond quickly, we suggest that you change these settings. You can do this by going to your dashboard and then Settings > Notifications and check the box for “Important” under the “Transactional emails” sub heading.

Once you have done this, you won’t miss any unread messages! Thank you for your understanding and please be assured that you can change your mind and opt-out of non-essential emails in the future.

    Best wishes,
    The PeoplePerHour Community Team

An email from a past client requesting further work is ESSENTIAL, not IMPORTANT though.  I have my phone connected so I can communicate with clients 18 hours a day.  I'm still not convinced you know the difference between non-essential and important emails, but I'll give it a go for a while.  These emails should be classified as ESSENTIAL.

We checked our email stats and noticed some users where getting 128+ UnreadMessagesSummaryEmails in the last 7 days. It is the email most likely to be reported as spam. Therefore we had to give our users a way to not get this email.

But I understand it's essential to you. Please try the "IMPORTANT" setting and let us know if it doesn't work out.

Ha ha - Glad to help. I can tell jokes too:

"Why did that man fall down that well?"

"Because that man did not see that well."

Tom - can you also take on board the other important questions we keep asking and so rapidly.  Perhaps you could oversee the issue with 'telegram' projects not being moderated.

And by the way I still can't fathom out why a message from a client wishing repeat work should be classified as IMPORTANT rather than ESSENTIAL.  You and I can't earn money if we don't see it!  I didn't have notifications in spam box either.

I checked our backlog and I see a TODO item called "Filter out Private Projects with telegram links in the description"

We are getting a increase in scam Projects, often private Projects where the attacker posts a telegram link like https://t.me/GraceREDACTED1 . Are we able to detect telegram links and take action against the attacker?

Is this the problem you are referring to?

    ---

What other important questions do you want answered? I'll try my best

    ---

I still can't fathom out why a message from a client wishing repeat work should be classified as IMPORTANT rather than ESSENTIAL.

I guess today I learned that one persons spam is another persons essential messages. I suppose we are trying to keep messages in the essential category to be things like invoice payment requests. At this stage reverting the re-classification would be more harmful I think.

    Where do you start Tom

Where is the support team, I have been waiting 19 days and no response to an initial query?

Why don't you remove freelancers that are not active on the site?

Why does the report button not work?

Moderate projects which ask us to contact via telegram - ie, don't let them on the boards.  Most of these are new 'buyers.'   Should be simple enough. Notice the word 'telegram' and they're out.  Today I've received notifications for four projects with telegram mentioned.  I've declined them all telling them the reason is they're dirty scammers.  All have now been cancelled.  There's a reason for that!

    Hi Adam,

    > Where is the support team, I have been waiting 19 days and no response to an initial query?

With more bank holidays than usual, the support team are extra stretched. Please re-post your query in case your ticket got caught up in the support overload.

    ---

    > Why don't you remove freelancers that are not active on the site?

    We do:

    1. If a Freelancer has not answered a direct contact (workstream) within 24 hours, we send the freelancer a warning email.

      1. If a Freelancer has not answered a direct contact (workstream) for more than 48 hours then we Penalise the freelancer. The penalised freelancer will be listed lower in freelancer search for 2 weeks.

      2. We restore penalisation after 2 weeks.

    2. If a Freelancer has not logged in for more than a year, we send the freelancer a warning email.

      1. If a Freelancer has not logged in a year and 15 days, we remove them from the freelancer listing pages.

      2. We restore their profiles when/if they log in again.

    3. The CERT score that we give Freelancers incorporate activity. non-active Freelancers will get a lower CERT over time.

    > Why does the report button not work?

It is working. I checked our violation reports admin dashboard and I can see reports coming in all the time. Our moderators check each report and many result in warnings or deactivations.

Thanks Nancy, I have emailed our Moderation team:

    > Stricter Project Moderation needed if mentioning Telegram

    > Regarding Project Moderation... Please could you pay attention to Projects with "telegram" in them. Our users are saying that many scam Projects are being posted with telegram links.

Tom - It's all most 3 weeks down the road and those Telegram spam job invitations haven't yet stopped, maybe even increased. I suggested to PPH Support previously to limit how many invitations a new buyer can send to sellers for the first posted job. Limit it to 10 or 20, it would already reduce by far the spam we sellers are getting from these jobs. Please raise this idea to the decision makers.

    Hi Gadi,

On Wednesday 14th June we deployed a change to the system that should have drastically reduced spam from Contact Messages, telegram spam in particular. If this didn't help, there might be a spam avenue that we're unaware of.

I'll look into making our invitation limit stricter. We certainly already have a limit, both a hard cap and a number after which the user gets put into a moderation watchlist, but our threshold is more like 100 and I agree 10-20 would be more helpful.

    Cheers,
    Tom

@Tom why you are there can you clarify if there is an error with refunds? Showing as credited in my pph account but it is not withdrawable or pending.

Adam - No, I'm not aware of any system problems related to refunds. I see you opened a support ticket. I'll take a look and answer in the ticket.

@Tom - I've just sent my reply to what you wrote me.

Attaching here the screenshot for the reference of the others. I received spam after last Wednesday (the day you launched the change), there were 3 job invitations on Thursday and 1 on Saturday.

This is my inbox. It's just spam. These aren't real job offers. If I do get a real job offer I won't see it. And yet... apparently I'll be penalised!

I honestly can't see how this site can work for me as a freelancer. Don't get me wrong, I want it to, but it seems unusable.

Just to reiterate a point I made on another thread on this topic.. I am not a translator, I can't speak any languages, I am not and never will be open to translator work.

    Hi Lindsay,

Thanks for reporting. It's only last week that I became aware of this loophole where scammers can invite Freelancers to their scam private Projects, without passing through moderation. I don't have a fix yet, but I'm working on one.

Out of interest, did the PPH system also email you about the scam invites?

    Cheers,
    Tom

    Hi Folks,

A code update was deployed today (Friday 23/June/23). I'm hopeful it will help with this problem of scammers abusing our website. Lets see...

    Cheers,
    Tom

Yes it did. I'm appalled at the rubbish and attempted frauds that have been directed at me since joining this site. You all seem to feel quite ho-hum about it, but this is really not funny or acceptable. If I actually got scammed you can be sure I'd be coming after the site as the hosts of this criminality. In fact I'm just quitting it while I'm ahead.

@Lindsay, I understand. Sorry for letting you down. We're trying our best but I understand that isn't always good enough.
