Location
AnsweredI was asked by support to provide my real location for my sign up in PPH. Where and how do I do that. I note in my dashboard that the country is correct so this is baffling.

I'm also having the same problem. I am currently in Guyana but live in Britain and am only here on holiday, but I'm assuming some info is sent about my location with my application. I've tried changing my IP address to a British one to no avail. Should I just register as living in Guyana and then change it in two weeks? Who do you even ask?!

I've had a reply from support@peopleperhour.com
Send them an e mail and they'll reply. Hope that helps everyone :)

same here
I was asked to send a utility bill like they are part of the government. I refuse to do that.
I asked them to prove me that I am not where I am!
It is really silly having to justify your location with them. They do not employ us and they are not accountable for our work, we are. This is ridiculous.

I actually gave up in the end trying to register - I've had a job for the last couple of years through ODesk anyway but I thought PPH offered more UK jobs which is why I wanted to register. As I said before they don't seem to have grasped the idea of "virtual" work being that you can be located anywhere in the world.

Hi Sue,
Location matter. I may be a client living in Guildford and I have a business in London and would like to hire a London based freelancer. After all said and done, I will be disappointed because the person I want to may not base in UK! I may want to hire someone from Spain to assist me with my Spanish clients that don't understand English, it may also be disappointed when I found out that the hired freelancer is not Spanish based neither does he/she knows how to speak Spanish . I may be looking for an native English speaker for article writing and I hired someone who I feel is a professional writer but when he/she send her completed job, I may notice some grammatical errors, after all said and done, I will be disappointed as the freelancer real location is from these non English speaking countries. You see freelancer location will help clients know who to hire. Thank you

Hi Miracle,
I am always honest with my clients.
It is not the website responsibility to surveil freelancers.
Also, by knowing somebody's location you won't know how professional they are.
Besides, I can tell you that PPH method is not working because my location is now incorrect and I have never been to the specific place they located me in so really this is only adding complications to the freelancers and you will not really know where they are. It is absolutely ridiculous and I am not even sure they are legally entitled to modify people's account without their knowledge and approval, actually against their consent showing data is not real and therefore potentially causing damage to the freelancer.
I am shocked they can do that. I am shocked they are not able to acknowledge and rectify their error.
I am shocked they ask me to submit a utility bill which I can do but I will not because I would not know who I am submitting it to.
On another note, sometimes, buyers except freelancers to do huge jobs for £5/$5. I am not even sure how they can think the jobs will be done properly. Nobody works for free. You get what you pay for is all I can say.
Thank you

I also am honest with clients and say in my write up that I am a UK national based in Bulgaria and I wouldn't take on a job that I was not qualified to do. The reason I want to put UK as my location is because I want the money paying into a UK bank and that's what I was told I had to do.
I think, Miracle, if it's vital for someone to speak a certain language for example, it would be made clear by the client and has no bearing on where they are located anyway.
I'll wait for PPH to get with "virtual" working and then may try again.

Hi Silvia,
This is not about professionalism. This is about Location. And Indian for example can never write like an English native unless he/she has lived in any English country for years. Also An American can never write perfectly well in British English unless he/she lived in UK for many years. Every client knows what he/she wants and 60% of it got to do with the freelancer location.

Hi Miracle,
I am not sure why I am wasting time with this.
It is not professional amending people's accounts without their permission.
My account shows a location that is incorrect.
You assume that people do no move countries and you are thinking of nationality not location.
If the Indian person you use an example lives in England will still be Indian but their location should be England because that is where they live. Their nationality will be Indian (assuming they were born in India).
I am Italian and I translate mainly into Italian because I agree with what you say.
However, I have lived in London for ten years and not in Italy. PPH changed my location to Italy when I went on holiday.
You need to build a relationship with the people you work with and you cannot rely on PPH checking people especially as their program is not working.
That is all. I won't reply to any other post.
Thank you

I have to re-submit my details, despite being a PPH member for a number of years. They want "Provide your real location." but don't say what this means. It may be because I am on hols in UK for 2 weeks but actually live in France. SInce I can't bid for jobs or even ask questions until they approve my submission, I begin to see it's not worth continuing. I've had a few jobs but most were badly specified by client and last one was completely different from way it had been represented. PPH is a race to the bottom. I have an ongoing contract so this is only a PT interest.

I think it's quite an annoyance that my location was forced to be in Japan when I was vacationing there, and now that I'm back at my actual address in Canada where I have been working and living my whole life, my location can't be changed from Hiroshima (a city I was nowhere near, by the way) to Vancouver, Canada. They should have a notice when you are signing up saying that you ought to make sure you are actually in your home city/country, or else your location is going to be wrong for good. And why is their system intelligent enough to know your location only when you are signing up? After that, I guess their app doesn't have the ability to see IP addresses anymore.

I am quite amazed to see that It's been more than two years and the topic is still on Fire and PPH has not taken notice that freelancers are facing this problem?
I am not mentioning any website here but trust me, two of the websites I happened to work on are so quick in case of customer support that they respond in minutes.
Well.. lets see what happens..

Not encouraging to find all these people having the same problem for several years now and only one mention of how to get help....I've just tried to register and got back a request for my real location, but all I was able to do was resubmit my application, nowhere on that does it ask for a location so I'm none the wiser, I've stated in my details that I work between the UK and Spain........what more can I do??
