Sick of getting a constant stream of irrelevant job matches
AnsweredI'm getting about 3 emails a day in this format:
You are a perfect fit for a new Job - be quick and get it
Hey [name],
You're one of the most qualified Sellers for the Job x because of your skills in y.
Further down the emails it says:
If you do not possess the skills mentioned above, you can remove them from your profile.
The skills listed on that page are totally irrelevant to what I'm receiving emails about. I've got PHP and MySQL listed as my skills, and I'm continually getting jobs for designing banner ads. I took on a couple small jobs converting banner ad GIFs to Flash ages ago, and that must be why I've been targeted.
How do I turn off these annoying, useless emails?
The email options page in my account is stupidly simple, and very unclear about what emails will or will not be sent at different settings levels. At the moment it's at the middle level, if I change it to the lowest level will I still receive emails when a real buyer has specifically selected me for a job, as they sometimes do? It's obviously very important that I still get these emails. Automated ones on the other hand are very annoying and completely useless.
Thanks!

I receive these emails too and they are driving me crazy. Yes I can delete them but only after I have opened them since they do not mention the skill or nature of the job in the subject line. Since I never get any relevant requests however I would rather refine my skills and turn this new piece of technology to my advantage. After all, it is supposed to be there to *help* is it not? If I find myself auto-deleting everything that comes from PPH what is the point of being here?
The problem is that the links provided in these emails to refine them are all dead ends. The link to removing skills from my profile only opens my profile for editing, and all I can see are the same three skills that PPH lets me have. The result is that I can do nothing to change the situation. The link to the job itself ostensibly for the same thing - to report that the job is not relevant to me - simply opens the job page.
The frustration arises not because I am receiving irrelevant emails, but because there is not a damn thing I can do to stop it or refine it to start receiving relevant emails. 100% of the emails I receive through this new feature are irrelevant to me. Can you imagine how frustrating that is when there is not a damn thing I can do about it?

PPH you really need to sort this out I have been using your website for a few years, and all the changes you keep making are just ridiculous and completely unhelpful. Today I woke up to once of your emails
You are a perfect fit for a new Job - be quick and get it
so I click through
You're one of the most qualified Sellers for the Job "jewellery maker required" because of your skills in Jewellery design *.
OH REALLY!!! Did I go to bed last night as a web designer and wake up this morning as a jewellery maker, I changed my career in the middle of the night right? No relevance to me whatsoever - why am I receiving all these jobs that do not match my skill set - you need to sort it out - in fact there are ton of jobs when searched that do fit my skill set - and not one has been offered to me - not one email have I received telling me to apply - your system is flawed and you are letting down the PPH freelancers in a big way.
If your going to send irrelevant emails then at least let us have the option to click a button to tell you this does not match our skill set - so you can improve your system if this feature is to stay - personally spamming my inbox all day with jobs that do not fit my profile is a complete waste of time and you would probably be better just scrapping it.

This whole site has become a complete irrelevance to me - which is sad as I used it hugely a few years ago.
I am ABSOLUTELY SICK AND TIRED these ruddy messages too:
You're one of the most qualified Sellers for the Job "Magento extension development" because of your skills in Website development *.
Really? I create eLearning.
My favourite to date has to be:
You're one of the most qualified Sellers for the Job "relocation specialist " because of your skills in Tutorial *.
I know they only take 30 seconds to delete, but WHAT is going on? Something is severely broken here. I would like to keep using you, but I need to keep things tidy in my email, and you are not helping.
For everyone's sake, and for your own professionalism and reputation - please sort it.
Thanks

let us have the option to click a button to tell you this does not match our skill set
There is an option on the emails to do just that. I'm not sure that it's wise to use it though - you never know what part of skills matching it might actually remove.
Well Paul thanks for your irrelevant message - yet again you and your team miss the point - I quote your comment
'I'm not sure that it's wise to use it though - you never know what part of skills matching it might actually remove'
this is the problem - I am receiving emails which do not match my skill set in the first place - I have been receiving emails about jewellery jobs (not for website building actually making jewellery and designing jewellery) I do not have this listed in my skill set - so cannot remove it - but yet your system is intent on sending me these jobs - and since mine and your last post I have received another 2 offers for jewellery design. ..... and whilst having a quick trawl through the jobs search - I can see lots of jobs are on here which do match my skill set - yet I have not received one email relating to any of these to date. I agree with Bruce - what is going on - and why have PPH not sorted this out...I have been a member on here since 2011, all the changes that have been making over the last couple of years in my opinion have not made PPH a better place - you know that saying....if it isn't broke........

I've been receiving lots of emails lately with irrelevant matches. I have not changed my skills listed for over a year (Excel, VBA) so reading this board and others, with PPH saying "It takes a few days to update our systems" is not true in my experience.
How, having only two static and unchanged skills: Excel and VBA, relates to:
- SEO
- Business Support
- Data Research
- Link Building
- Accounting
Amongst a number of other sent notification "You are a perfect fit for this job" I have no idea.
To be clear, I do not want RELEVANT email notifications to stop, just those that do not relate to me at all. Will wait to see what PPH's response team have to say to this, hopefully not what was said above "Please email our CS team by creating a ticket from the support page, or from the live chat, to request for these emails to stop. "

Yes - please sort this out. We need more specific notification settings. I get over 10 emails a day which I delete straight away - and my notifications are 'Essential only' apprarently. We need to be able to turn off/on the following types of emails separately. The current settings are inadequate.
'Express Job invitations',
'Selected to bid first for',
'xx new jobs were posted'
'You have been invited to send a proposal'

You guys are really lucky. My skills are PLC programming, and automation - although this is proper automation, as in getting pumps to run and valves to open in the right sequence. If I search PLC programming I get 000s of irrelevant hits, generating loads of irrelevant emails.
What is required is the ability to search for an exact phrase

In the screenshot below, there is only 1 invitation which is relevant to my skillset. I'm sorry to see the post about this dates from 6 years ago and that our only option is to indicate the invitation is irrelevant. It seems like the system still doesn't remember that, however. I also don't understand why it thinks I would be interested in these jobs. It's great that I can edit my profile to prevent this, but there's nothing there saying I have the required web skills for these projects.

Hmm. Usually I get loads of irrelevant jobs from PPH. Mostly due to a crude match of my skills.
I don't think there's much to be done about it.
These days buyers (horrible word) have such poor descriptions that I can understand why the screening is so vague.
PPH is going downhill.
I am marked as "unavailable" right now. I still get invitations and the PPH job emails.
