  ....so do we just invoice the hours we worked? How does a buyer know we aren't pulling a fast one?!

  They should have confidence in your integrity, coupled with your explanation of how the time has been spent.

  So you just add your hours up as you go and let them know regularly how it is going? I have only done fixed price jobs so far and sometimes it works out that I do more work than I had budgeted for...
