Will my rating be ruined after accepting a refund?
AnsweredI won an amazing job for a company that is using a virtual assistant on PPH. I struggled to get much communication from her and once I sent her the work, despite a couple of messages from me didn't get any feedback to revise the work. I then received a (quite aggressive) response today (nearly a week later) telling me I needed to quickly rewrite the 'disappointing' articles or she wanted a refund. Unfortunately I don't have time today to rewrite the articles to the spec that she wants, and I said to her that I felt her feedback had been given unreasonably and that had she come back with pointers for revision I would have been more than happy to sort the articles. Basically her dispute was all her opinion, rather than actual fact so I couldn't win. A few messages where exchanged and she eventually just messaged me and said I have no choice but to cancel and requested a refund saying 'could not complete brief' or similar. So I accepted thinking it would be fine but now read it will affect my rankings. I have worked really hard to get good feedback on here, she's my first negative feedback and I go full-time freelance next week so I am terrified my PPH cert will be ruined now and so completely ruin my livelihood. I also don't know what to do next as the refund is pending. I thought it would be worse to dispute it?
Help :(

Yes, I have thought better of it since! The refund has gone through now and so far, no ratings have been affected. I have also noticed that she is a complete beginner to the site which may explain how unprofessional she was. I so wish PPH had a fair system to support sellers and buyers!

I've had a similar problem - only this time the client has been allowed to leave a spiteful comment and a rating of one out of five. This is despite the fact I gave him three rewrites of his press release and three rewrites of an email to bloggers. It then emerged he wasn't looking for a press release or email letter but an article and a first person blog account (he's Italian and didn't know how to express himself properly). He also told me that despite working in PR for 11 years and receiving a rating of 5 stars for every press release I've even written on PPH I apparently can't write a press release (which is why he gave me one star). I'd accept criticism if this was a fellow PR industry professional but the client makes and sells olive oil or a living!
Following a dispute there is obviously hard feelings so why is the client then allowed to rate the freelancer? This doesn't make sense as obviously they're going to give a bad rating which negatively affects the freelancer's profile and probably prevents him/her from getting other work.
Come on PPH I really don't think you have thought this through.
I'm seriously thinking of leaving this site if this client's spiteful feedback is allowed to remain on my profile as it shows a lack of professionalism from the site.
How do others feel about clients being allowed to rate them following a dispute?
