Cancelling an awarded project
AnsweredA freelancer has said that he wants e to cancel the project because he can't deliver the work. I can't see how to cancel it and I want to ensure I don't lose my money - any ideas how I go about this?
-
Why cant a buyer cancel a project?
It's simple. I could complete the project and the buyer could take what I've sent to them and cancel the project even though I've done the work. This would be totally unfair and nobody would work on PPH if this was possible and buyers would flock here for free work.
Anyone having issues with their seller (or buyer) should ask for assistance from PPH customer support.
I think that in the past a buyer could cancel a project provided the seller agreed.

This is the second freelancer that cannot do the work~ How experienced are freelancers on this site and why can't a buyer, cancel a job?
Generally you get what you pay for and the PPH site has feedback that can help you to choose wisely. You should also engage with the freelancer before awarding the project to see how well the freelancer understands what you want comes up with a suitable plan of work.
If this is the second time that you've got it wrong chances are that
a) You've made the budget too low to interest competent people
and/or
b) You're a poor judge.
A buyer can't just cancel a job because unscrupulous buyers would be changing their minds after freelancers had invested a lot of time and money in their project.
There are plenty of experienced people here and hopeless ones too.

I have similar problem, I awarded the project to a seller, we agreed on a price, then the seller increased the price by over double the agreed price so I asked him to do not proceed and to cancel the project. he refunded the money in the escrow but now I want to cancel the project and there is no option to do so.

This is pure nonsensical. Why cant a buyer cancel a project. The freelancer may not want to cancel because they want to keep negotiating but as a buyer I am totally tired of negotiation and just want to end it. Inability for a buyer to cancel a project is like putting a buyer in a Lions den once project has been awarded to a freelancer. I suppose I can cancel my account if I cant cancel a project then.

Maybe I am a poor judge. I tend to believe what people tell me however I have come to realise, that to get awarded a job, the freelancers I have communicated with say one thing to get the job, once the job is awarded, they come up with excuses as to why they cannot do all the work that was in my description. They do not answer a specific question. As to the budget being too low, My first job I submitted, I received quotes from $45.00 to $3000.00~ I choose the person that answered all my questions within minutes & seemed to know what they were talking about~ once job was awarded, the wait for an answer was 24 hours & my job was handed over to another worker, through lack of good communication skills, on both sides, as Indian is not something I excel at there was lack of understanding of my needs. My job should take some one with the correct skills, no more than 2 days to complete. I think my budget is good, and I have offered a bonus if competed within 5 days, the person who started work on Saturday, today is Wednesday, is still struggling~ I think it is luck of the draw~

I think it is luck of the draw
I disagree. Generally, the feedback is the key. If any seller fails to deliver they get bad feedback.
My job should take some one with the correct skills, no more than 2 days to complete.
If you know enough to decide that, you should really have been able to tell, I think.
So for two days work, what was the budget? £400? £40?

I came on an outsourcing site to get a less expensive price, than what Is being charged in my country however at this stage I would pay more if I knew 100% the job would be completed to my satisfaction, that the freelancer was not juggling a few jobs, that the freelancer stayed with the job and did not pass it on to some one else. that the freelancer had the skills they said they had etc...
-
I see they have made an unasked for changes to one of my pages, that looks horrible.
No professional should be doing that without your permission. They wouldn't have been able to do that if you hadn't given them login details to your website. These things should be done on test sites not live sites.
there is no control over freelancers
You're right. You gave up control of your website without asking the right questions first.
You did save money though.
You can't blame PPH for what this freelancer/team are doing. You appointed them, you had every opportunity to ask the right questions and not give them access to your website until you were happy with the designs.

They said they needed the admin details to the website. As the website is not finished, I gave them the admin details to the word press site, so they could add plugins. They could not access plugins from a test site.
I have not saved any money~
I did ask the right questions.
You are correct I can not lay all the blame with PPH however I believe there has to be a better system in place, even a mediator for when communication between the buyer and freelancers has broken down.
At the moment my money is in escrow, the freelancer is not replying to my emails. I will be interested to see what happens to my money~ End of the day, it is a big learning curve~

I hope so, as I had an unfinished website needing a few days work to now needing to buy a new word press theme website. As I have been told that along with unasked for changes, there is a possibility the website might now be at risk in other ways. Certainly this experience has put me off using an out sourcing site for my website. In future I will stick to hiring some one face to face~

The website I need fixing, was first started in Australia, at a high price, it was never completed.
I** outsourced, as in Australia, I could not find any one to complete what was started, they said they did not want to fix some one else mistakes.**
At the end of the day, people have their prices, there are those that are happy to pay whatever is asked and there are others that look for something more reasonable to their budget and/or the job.
At the end of the day, I was refunded, which I am grateful for. I do not think it is worthwhile to find some one now to fix the mistakes of the freelancer and to also complete the site so it functions.
Thanks for 'listening' and your thoughts~
