I'm new, what's the procedure for going with someone I declined?

Hi,

I'm new to this. I put up a job, accepted someone, then they had a family emergency so I now want to go with someone else who replied.

I didn't realise that accepting someone meant everyone else got declined.

So now, I can message my 2nd choice. What do I need to do? I've actually no idea whether I can just deal with him direct or have to stay in pph or what.
