When should I request Money?
Hello,
Im a web developer and have quoted £800 for a job, with 50% deposit, the 50% is in escrow and I have started and completed a fair amount of the work.
At what point do you think I should request the money?
He has suggested he will pay the deposit on completion of the website and remaining after any bug fixes.
What do you think to this and how would i protect myself against him having the code and then not paying?
thanks.

Hi Gary,
Many thanks for your message. In future I recommend either asking for 100% deposit in escrow initially, or ask for 50% up front, complete 50% of the work, then ask for the final 50% deposit to be paid in escrow for completing a milestone.
Once work has been completed you can then submit an invoice for all funds to be released from escrow.
Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Thanks for your reply, I did actually tell him I want payment for 3 milestones:
- 50% deposit
- 25% On completion (remaining 50% added to escrow here)
- 25% Held back until Bugs are fixed
He agreed and paid the first 50% - seems like a nice chap,
I normally ask for 100% upfront for smaller jobs - best to get money in escrow first.
So happy days :)
