That's a good question. Have you emailed PPH? They should be able to tell you what the bottom line is regarding seller/buyer relationship. I think there's a thing in the UK about agencies being the liable party but I'm not a lawyer so ignore everything I say. If you do get word from PPH, please post the response here. It would be for the benefit of other sellers as support is quite limited around here.

It's absolutely a good idea to have this in place for your business. In terms of what it covers, that depends on the insurance provider - I would shop around between a few different companies and speak to them about their particular offerings.

My recommendation would be Hiscox, AXA or Policybee as a starting point. They all have quite solid offerings and the type of insurance that you require and the amount they would need to cover would depend on the amount you're billing or anticipate billing each year. As a tip - always put this at least a little bit higher than you anticipate. The price difference really isn't that much.

Do remember that professional indemnity insurance would cover you with all facets of your business and not just on work through a freelance website.

If you ever go to client premises or have them come to you, you may also want to consider Public Liability Insurance as well. Speak with your chosen insurance provider about how you go about your day-to-day business and they will be able to advise you on the best options that suit your needs.

Finally, with regards to PPH - I'm quite sure in the Terms and Conditions that any disputes between buyer and seller, are initially via a mediation style method as per the "Disputes" section.

Still, I've seen a number of freelancers face legal action (and take it against non paying clients) on other freelance websites. It's always worth making sure you're covered with every aspect and given that professional indemnity insurance is generally £5-10 per month, it's pretty much a no brainer. So good on you for considering it - stay ahead of the game :)

    Hey Kaylia

I agree with Matt - it should be a no-brainer considering the minimal costs involved for peace of mind.

As a writer/copywriter, you should be fine, but if you suddenly get a case where you're asked to write website copy or some documents that could somehow land you in trouble, you want to be covered!

I use Hiscox and have done for many years, for all my businesses. I also cover my laptop, iPad, phone etc too. So, since you're a writer, you should get your laptop covered too :) It's worth it!
