Completed work in the 'In Discussion' workstream

I have written over 20 articles for a customer. But only now that I have requested to be paid have I realised that he has not accepted my proposal and I have been completing work for him in the 'In Discussion' workstream. 

Whilst he has verified on several occasions that he has accepted the request verbally, he has not actually completed the action as he should have. 

As this is my first job of PPH I did not realise that this was needed. Is there any way of still getting payment, or have I completely wasted my time?

  Thank you for your message.

  I'm very sorry to hear this is the case. The buyer has not actually accepted your proposal, which means that the project is not officially started. The fact that you have done work for them though is very unfortunate since there is no escrow and we cannot guarantee you any payment.
