UI and features
Hi,
I really enjoy using PPH. The enjoyment largely stems from the top culture you have. It comes from the fact that your founder, ninja team, and all stakeholders involved care about what they do. And this reflects in the system and attentiveness. It is rare to find companies of this size showing these attributes/approach. Integrity. On that note, please continue!
I hope these comments reach you the right way. They are mere suggestions...
1. The mobile site has issues. The pop up notifications don't disappear so it causes problems. Which means replying while mobile is hindered.
2. There should be a mandatory MOU or burndown chart for each proposal including a timeline and cost per item. I would rather a client waits 1-2 days to receive a well constructed proposal than some random estimate based on zero facts. When a client comes on the system and says I have 1 week to do ABC project URGENT, it is fraught with issues. That is not your problem. It is rare and their problem for rushing. Rushing always leads to a mess.... A few years back I used to use Upwork for hiring and they didn't have this system. I think this is an area you can take one step ahead. And it has huge significance. Quality and reputation. Most of the market is going downwards and engaging in $5-$30 per hour range. You cannot make a living like this. The only way is upstream.
3. I would allow chats between clients and freelancers more. Let them chat back and forth on your system. Add keystroke dynamics here. Find out their emotions and personality. Start collecting data and use it to refine algorithms or feed a licensed system with an API. Eitherway you will find very interesting information. You can see the effect of a policy/feature on freelancer and client emotions. This is the highest grade of feedback. Deep emotional analytics. Sometimes they do business beyond the freelance world. For example, my parents are in the coral stone mining industry and I have asked for a contact in the middle east construction industry that appeared in my feed. Thus we may both benefit and you at PPH get a decent commission. Rather than close down the revenue funnel open it up. Growth is equal to scaling. The funnel should be inverted....
4. I would suggest a better matching algorithm and better clarity. Both freelancers and clients should be able to filter what appears in their feed. I.e. fine tune what notifications they receive. Sometimes I get notifications for $50 projects which is simply impossible to achieve on the scale at which they request. This then brings along the question of reasonability. I have seen projects being quoted at prices that simply cannot be done properly. I am glad you have pop ups that request reasonability. But I suggest further tightening here. Freelancer.com didn't tighten. So freelancers on the site engage in price wars with each other. Most clients don't know what it costs to do what they want. So they get taken advantage of. I have read numerous times of complaints re. "I hired someone and it wasn't done right." This may have occurred on another site. However, the principle is clear. Clarity.
5. The site has the potential to become a platform. Change the UI into a map system. If you want to know how to do this just chat with me on Skype: alessandro.torriani11
6. The font needs to be uniform. There is a size mismatch. I would suggest also have a dyslexic friendly font. 20% of your users are dyslexic so this will help them.
7. Analytics. Optimal pathways. Yes I need project ABC done. But usually I need more than one person on board. Instead of the client sorting this out or the freelancer you can assist. It would need a broading of the skills listings and then a matching algorithm. You merely need cross patterns to show and then link accordingly.
8. Hotspots on the map.
9. I can create a deeper document. This is what I do for a living.
All the best,
Alessandro
