Exactly, I was turned down by upworks recently, spoke with support and it is cause they limit the amount of designers. Personally it a great idea, though I have heard that platform is no better.

I got free credits from PPH at the moment so I don't mind bidding at the moment but when it costs me to bid, there ain't a chance of me spending £30 for proposals on top of the commission.

PPH said the fee change was going to be beneficial to freelancers.  Has ANYONE not lost a huge amount of money this month?  I am scrambling to work out how I can pay my rent this month.

Thats the issue, i Think they believe they are taking a little bit more profit off the top, but its far more than that, they are destroying peoples and businesses income. As a competitive market place prices are already low, to then be stripped of what profits is left is crazy and i just dont understand it. The platform has been going down hill for 6 months, this move is only going to accelerate them. Im so shocked with their decision.

And STILL no reply from them in this thread!

Closure on this matter is all we’re asking. We’re not asking for much here. All I’m looking for is for PPH to issue a statement on the matter and address it. Even if it’s a sub-par robot generated response that one of its customer service team graces us with.

Literally just some form of acknowledgement.

All I need to know is if it’s staying like this indefinitely so that I can make plans to generate other streams of income away from the platform.

2 weeks notice PPH. 2 weeks. You us two weeks notice on a decision that has changed my financial situation drastically.

It’s literally an abhorrent way to run a business. Still dumbfounded.

I was trying to see latest results for them, just so people are aware they are late filing their confirmation statement also, it was due 2 nd July.

Can be verified on the companies house beta search.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in their offices.

It is worth noting the operations are based in Greece - so they may be subject to different rules. But not filing accounts is pretty serious.

Does anyone know what the penalty for that is?

Could this mean a change of ownership?

Who knows.  One thing for sure -- freelancers can't trust this company anymore.  They have tripled fees (or more) overnight. Put many freelancers into financial peril.  Betrayed long-term freelancers by minimising the hourlies they worked hard on.  They did that while "pretending" it was a decision that would benefit us.  Disgusting really.

    @Megan,

Late filing penalties do not apply to an overdue confirmation statement.

Instead, failure to file confirmation statements, annual returns or accounts is a criminal offence which can result in directors being fined personally in the criminal courts. Any criminal proceedings taken as a result of non-filing of confirmation statements is separate from and in addition to any late filing penalty imposed against the company for filing accounts late.

Companies House may also seek to strike the company off if documents are delivered late. maybe they planned to sell or merge with some other platforms!!? who knows!!

This is yet another scam from PPH to extort more money from the Sellers. I have been on here for 4 years (top cert for 3 years) and fees have gone up and up, and not in a fair or just way either, it has put clients off from working with me and my earnings have gone down markedly. On a recent transaction with a new client costed at £262 PPH took £63 of that - for what?!? most clients I get on here are new, most I will NEVER get over £500 in transactions from as they are for lower priced hourlies, and straight away I am losing 20% (PLUS VAT!) - I cannot raise my prices by 20%, the service I am getting is exactly the same as when I first started on here, yet the fee structure keeps changing making it more difficult to make money on here - you are NOT looking after your sellers - WE are the ones making YOUR profit - yet rather than make it easier to make a living and bring in new custom you make it harder? Thanks a bunch.

Danielle we all feel your pain. Apparently though, due to ‘extensive community feedback’ we all wanted this change!

Ha! Bring on the feedback I say!

So I have just had a client settle my invoice for an hourly that is priced at £120. I came out with £91.20 after PPH fees. I am pretty sure that works out around 25%!

I cannot justify those kinds of fees at all.

It is difficult to express in words, the jubilation and excitement I feel inside every time 'Lucy' sends me an email with the title 'Help your business grow'.

Maybe one of these days it will contain some golden nuggets of advice like:

    - Sign up to other freelancing platforms that will cost you less in fees.

    or

    - Save time and energy to use elsewhere by not reading through proposals that read like they were written with a crayon, by a five year old.

As for the changes in fees, the lacklustre support response and the way PPH have handled themselves as well as the whole premise on which this has all come about, it takes a special kind of stupid to be so ignorant about your own business, and Xenios, on the basis that this all appears to come from you as the head of the business, you are the guru of stupid and we all bow down to your greatness.

The irony is that you could have posted a job on your own platform, along the lines of: (select options as appropriate from the spun text below)

' (I have a failing business|I am a greedy cash hungry owner of a business), and (need the assistance of a successful business consultant|don't need any help for I am a business god) in order to (make amends for my previous transgressions and improve the quality of the service we offer|drive my business into the ground as fast as humanly possible). In terms of budget (I am prepared to pay whatever it takes|there is none because as you may have read in reviews on glassdoor I am a cheapskate and hate investing money that I think is my own and not the business'). The successful applicant can expect (a sensible level headed client|to be mistreated the same as I treat all my staff, with no respect) because (I have turned over a new leaf and seen the error of my ways | I believe I know best and freelancers get paid more than any other workforce and deserve to pay me (more than their mortgage|tax bill|more than they can afford)).

    ------------------------------

Peeps, fellow 'lancers, abandon hope all ye who enter here. If you haven't got the message by now, nothing is going to change for at least several months, if ever, which nobody can afford to ride out. Find alternatives as soon as possible if you haven't already done so. Make sure that any work you continue to do via this site is priced appropriately so that you don't work for far less than you are worth which is the worst option and nobody should accept such a situation.

I wish you all the best in securing work elsewhere and continuing to make a living.

As for you Xenios, 30 seconds in a room. That's all I would need.

A business doesn't make this kind of dramatic change unless it is arrogant, or in trouble. I believe the latter is true, given some of the reports on here about financials. An influx of quick cash appears to be the motivation. That saddens me greatly, but seemed inevitable when they started to champion quick, low rate jobs - which are often one-off by definition.

I think this change in fees has a very simple explanation:

Long term client billing has dwindled (lots of clients have left due to fees). PPH cannot possibly enforce or control sellers who do a job or two with a client and then decide to take that relationship off-site. I suspect that is why we're seeing the massive grab for profit from the only income they can control - the first £500 with any client, which is likely the bulk of their transactions.

The only thing that keeps people billing long terms clients via this system is loyalty. That loyalty is primarily engendered by seeing feedback and ranking translate into new business. Everything else can be forgiven if that relationship stays intact.

Now that new business is dwindling, and too expensive to pitch for, the loyalty of successful sellers is going to be severely tested.

Why bill on-site for a good ranking if that ranking brings less and less work, with a super-high commission tag?

I'll be wrapping up all clients who I haven't billed £5k with, and I can't imagine any new clients will be willing to hire me for the 25% rise in fees I have to adopt.

The new fees are ridiculous. There is only a benefit to PPH and none whatsoever to sellers. Change it back and stick with it. We are thankful for providing such a great platform but at the same time you need to think about the wellbeing of your customers, since the sellers and buyers are the ones that drive the site.

My fees have gone from 6.5%-7.5% to 20% this month.  A flat 20%.  EVERY SINGLE CLIENT is below the first threshold.  This is a disgrace.

Enjoy the short term profit PPH, because in the long term this will damage your business significantly.  Unbelievable greed and betrayal of long-time freelancers.

I've been a TOP Cert in Web & Mobile Development category since 2011 and joined this platform on its very initial days. I have worked hard both online and offline to promote and introduce this platform to both potential sellers and buyers and built a business around it that favours this very platform in terms of service fee and otherwise.

I absolutely demand that the OLD SERVICE FEE structure be re-instated instantly to keep long time seller motivated and attracted to the platform. I have moved over to other platforms to keep my business afloat since this revised scheme has been literally FORCED on us. I have clients and projects which tend to go on for years not months and so my invoicing cycle repeats accordingly, and my work is not always billed every month.

I am not sure If PPH is really interested in listening to us all as they NEVER did but this presents atleast a platform to tell them that they are LOSING me and a lot more top selling sellers like me.

    Definitely the OLD SCHEME please!!!

Not all clients on PPH are long term service buyers, in fact, most are just one time customers... the new fee scheme certainly proves to be way too costly for them.

So, we sure do request PPH to go back to the old scheme.

    Best

Yes of course previous structure was better.

Only other platforms like upwork is having 20% for the New comers. Then after $500, they reduce it to 10%. After 5000$ they reduce to 5%. So what is the benefit here for working for many years and producing more and more?

Freelancer dot com provides hundreds of free bids and free exams along with special high value projects for the long term sellers. Fees structure is as usual 15%.

Then what is the additional benefit we are getting here for paying 5% more?

    Pph should think about it.

    Thanks and regards

PPH have increased their daily spam emails to 5.  Do they think a business person is happy to receive 5 spam emails in their inbox every day at the  exact same time?  PPH need to fire their marketers.

I've had the odd sale, but over the last week I've noticed a huge drop of in enquiries. Anyone else? Profile views are down a huge 27% this month.

About 4 last week.  The rate has dropped significantly.  When each hourly is attracting 20% in fees, it feels barely worth it.  It feels like I am being ripped off with every job I do, with huge sums going towards PPH.  It's disgusting tbh.

On Friday I featured my profile on the same 4 skills that I have done many times in the past, normally I would get several good quality leads doing this.

This time was virtually nothing, just a few very poor quality invitations to bid

The highlight being a complete e-commerce website for a budget of $30 USD!
