Help - Copywrite agreement
AnsweredHi , A buyer is trying to get me to sign a copywrite agreement on the design I have already done for them and payment received. I feel uncomfortable signing an external legal document. From my understanding when you have done work on PPH and payment received buyer now owns this? Please help! Thank you.

Hello Alexandra,
you are correct. According to our Terms and Conditions, as well as our Privacy Policy, when a Buyer purchases a service from a Freelancer, all provided products are her/his intellectual property. This is also covered by various international and local legislation.
Therefore, your Buyer is safe regarding the copyright, legally or otherwise.
Have a nice day.

Well I would disagree with the reply you got from PPH.
I would say you grant a lifetime worldwide Licence for the client to use the design or service. The design such as a character design still remains the copyright of the creator. Only the submitted files to the client become their licensed/copyright. This doesn't give the client the right to the create other files in the sane character design. Just make it clear to the client you own the copyright to the character design and they have a licence to use the supplied designs worldwide for life. Most of the time I just let the client have the design. Occasionally I see a higher value in a character I may have designed. So will let the client know and make a copyright statement that I retain the copyright before I supply the files to the client with a lifetime licence.
3 years too late to answer your question but think its better than PPH response. You are the creater you make your terms if you wish to.
