Fee confusion

Hello, I'm confused by the freelancer fees. They're supposed to be 20%, but whenever I try to submit a proposal in the projects section, I always lose 24% / 25% of whatever bid I enter. Can you tell me why this is happening please? Are there additional fees as well as the 20% cut that PPH takes? Thanks

  Hi Joe. The fees have VAT charged on them, so that is the extra amount. 20% VAT charged on the 20% fee.

  So it works out as around 25% lost on each order. That's crazy, frankly.

  Can you also advise me on why my profiles don't seem to be visible to anyone? I have the same gigs and gig photos as I use on other freelance platforms, plus I use the same SEO keywords, and I have success on those platforms.

  On PPH - nothing.

  VAT is a bit of a sore subject with me. I am registered for VAT so I can reclaim the fees but then I have to charge it, and it isn't really built into the quote system and I often find myself taking on a project at an inclusive price and I'm not able to add the VAT.
  
  Someone else might have a better idea why the profiles are not visible. There is very little work on PPH at the moment and that in itself could be a reason why you are not getting any exposure.
