Here's an idea
"We regretfully note you did not receive adequate good feedback within 3 months "free" qualifying period... The good news is that if you'd like another shot at it you can extend your qualification for another 3 months starting from £9.95/month."
Sorry I refused to sell my soul by working for peanuts in order to win a job and get "good" feedback. I will get some good feedback when I actually get work through your site. I don't feel I did not receive adequate good feedback - I feel your proposal system is not adequate for the complexities of product design.
Although i'm very tempted to pay you £10 a month so that buyers with really badly written or utterly vague briefs can ask me to submit a fixed price quotation and select my proposal based on nothing but the cheapest price, but I'd rather be valued enough not to be taken for a ride by both the customer and the service supplier.
I might point out that I have submitted quite a number of proposals, and in most cases they have outlined my experience and just asked for more information about the job in order to give the buyer a more accurate quote and better customer service. I've only been sent this information on a couple of occasions, and in those cases I have been one of more than a dozen suitable applicants.
I find it puzzling that you go out of your way to encourage freelancers to join your platform, create a competitive market that is appealing to buyers and then penalise those sellers who don't finished first. There can only be one winner for every job and I've noted that there are at least 20 proposals submitted for every job posted in my sector. Even if they shortlist 5 proposals, buyers can only afford to pick 1, so the other 4 worthy candidates get nothing.
I tell you what - I will will pay the money and get the good feedback you require if you can guarantee that I get a job through your site in the next 3 months, and the money earned (minus your rather chunky cut of course) is enough to cover my overheads, a minimum legal wage based on the hours spent to complete the work, and the cost of this fee. That way we all win!...
