But I got the project manager's name and telegram link from the advertised project in PPH.. And the instruction was that I should contact him using the provided linkedin or hangout. I followed the instruction I recieved in PPH. How come PPH sends us scam contact details for us to be scammed?
-
I've been telling them for weeks not to approve these scam projects. The word 'telegram' jumps out as fraud - they should be more aware.
That said, PPH state in their terms and conditions that contacting anyone outside of a PPH platform is not permitted and you may get banned for doing so.

Nancy, it is a sign of desperation and lack of freelance knowledge that people fool for these posts.
They just bid for anything. I posted a project last week and took it off within an hour, I was spammed by around 20 unqualified Indians telling me they could do it when they had no skills, no portfolio and to make matters worse I was then inundated by unsolicited emails and LinkedIn requests.
It is worrying that PPH can't block these scammers and properly vet freelancers.
PPH seem to have no staff (I am waiting for a reply and it has been 7 working days so far), no webchat and they still advertise freelancers on social media (today) who haven't had an order in over a year.

I know - and it's a downhill spiral, I'm afraid.
I've posted a few projects and had to cancel them after less than an hour. Very unqualified candidates who fail to even string a sentence together properly. I ask them how they would attempt the project and then get the begging replies. It's such a shame as I can't rely on finding high calibre freelancers here anymore. I'm not even going to try.
I'm even getting direct contact messages from scammers, people touting for work, and I have to reply otherwise I'm penalised. I spend more time replying to these messages than writing bids for work, such is the lack of worthwhile projects.
I've been a TOP CERT on this site throughout my 13 years here. I earn a fraction of the amount I used to, so the fact that I haven't slipped in ranking proves that turnover overall has decreased massively. I'm not sure there are many staff, answers are always copied and pasted replies - even to queries which you and I can easily answer.
I'm at the point of despair with everything. Not earning enough to cover outgoings, and wondering where my future lies - this site doesn't provide the answers now.

That's the same complaint I hear from buyers that they post a project and are swamped with spam, and then people find their website or LinkedIn account and spam them there as well. It's hardly a surprise we don't get many projects posted any more.
There were just over 1800 listed this morning. It is always lowest on a Monday morning, but if you think that anything over 3 days old is probably dead, some of the posts are duplicated, some are scams and some are cross posted on other platforms. There are probably not much more than 200 or 300 projects available across all the categories. I can't understand why freelancers with limited abilities are so desperate to register. -
Would that mean that the so called Andrew Wilson the project manager mentioned by PPH is a scammer?
He is still insisting that he is going to pay me as soon as I complete the task. However, he has not addressed any of my concerns regarding the authenticity of himself and the overall project.
I shared my personal details with him including my bank account number for payment. I am worried. PPH has not gotten back to me either to have this clarified. I'm gutted because i have given in so much of my time and money into this likely to be false project 😕

You shouldn't start anything until the deposit is paid in escrow and the project is accepted. Even the buyers who are not scammers will mess you about and pick your brains and then either do the job themselves or award it to someone else who is cheaper, or just abandon it.
The Telegram one is a known scam. I get an invite for that at least once a month. -
To be honest, I followed the instructions I got from my PPH account. And I'm new to it. I actually paid money to PPH when I created it for fast processing. It was my instinct that prompted me to dig in further. I was able to find out more reasons to worry. But then I have already shared my details with him.
I discovered the escrow and other procedures as well. When I present this to him, he never mentioned anything about my concerns and all hw will ask was how far have I gone with it? When would you finish? I will pay you when you finish.
All instructions he gave me was the same as the instructions I received from my PPH account. Including his name was accurate. I think PPH is collaborating with scammers to scam people?🤔 Or could it be that PPH system is hijacked? 🤔 I am new to this PPH and I'm experiencing s**t already.
It's serious !

I've had four invites to telegram today alone. I always report them and they seem to be deactivated.
I don't think PPH are in collaboration with scammers, but they don't seem to have the staff to detect these projects before they are posted, which I find quite odd.
You should only work on projects which are awarded to you with a deposit paid into Escrow. It's there for security and to protect you. Sorry you've learnt the hard way, but you do have to read the terms and conditions on dealing with buyers outside of the platform. It is possible PPH will ban you for failure to work to their terms.
-
You have been scammed because you have not read up about the site. You just thought this site was a pot of gold. You need to be aware of scams, learn how to bid and read up on the site all of the resources can be found on here. Freelancing is not for everyone, and you will be scammed if you don’t learn how to work properly and safely.
Put simply you are at fault.
-
Why should I be banned ? I have not even done my first project and I'm getting banned. I have not started and I'm getting finished. Are they banning me for collaborating with scammer that they allowed to deceive legit people or newbies using their own platform? Is it my fault that a scammer used thier platform to scam me ? It is like me getting real instructions from my online banking directly from my bank and they turn to blame me for complying because scammers are using their system to advertise to customers. Its not my fault. The PPH should accept thier problem or weakness and fix it because banning me will not solve the problem for them. They should equally find a way to ban themselves too because they too are super wrong.
-
Johnmay - you should always read the T&Cs of any site before you start work. By working outside of PPH you are potentially depriving PPH of their commission. It's not so much banning you for collaborating with a scammer, but failing to work within the set conditions of the website. It is your fault entirely. Why do you think there's an Escrow and Invoicing system on PPH?

I came across this PPH through someone that mentioned it amongst other places. I read about them. I did not read everything. I'm the kind of person that don't wait to know everything in detail fully before I start. I learn as I do. If I wait to know everything in pph before starting, that's procrastination. I might as well leave it. If I should read all the t&c before I use my phone, I may actually decide not to use phone again or at least will take a while. However, I did went back when my suspicion grew. I saw these things like the escrew and how he is supposed to pay into the account or at least as the PPH to contact me directly to authenticate our deal, he ignored those bits. And only said that he will pay me immediately I submit. I have wasted like 9 hours for nothing. But it's fine, that's a learning curve. Greater opportunities ahead.
