AnsweredHi,
I cannot see a button reporting abuse, so I have decided to contact you. I am confident that the post from Aldous R. isn't legit (here's the link http://www.peopleperhour.com/job/sales-consultant-needed-601079) as unfortunately, I have been scammed exactly like this in the past on a different freelancer website as a newbie. Buyer asks you to contact you on his Gmail account and asks you to sell some expensive items on Ebay through your own Ebay ID. They promise to pay you certain amount (£150 ironically in this and in the past case) as a commission that you will keep from the sale and you will then forward them rest of the money for sale onto him and they will issue tracking details for the item they supposedly shipped. Like I said, this happened to me via freelancer.com and the result was following: I sold some very expensive coins on ebay for £400, kept my commission of £150 and stupidly sent the rest via Paypal to a person that I have never heard from since. Obviously the coins were never shipped and I ended up paying the full £400 refund back to the eBay Buyer (not to mention my carefully watched Ebay feedback score was ruined) from my own pocket(Paypal refunded it from my account and restricted me from selling on eBay). I thought, well if Paypal is so safe and can refund buyer from the Ebay, I should be able to get my money back from that crook that I got hooked up with via freelancer.com, as I have sent him the money through Paypal also. Well, it didn't work for me this way as the transaction between me and the crook wasn't an eBay transaction, so I was advised to go to the police. And I have never seen my money back. Very nicely done fraud.
Sorry for the whole story above but I though you should be aware of people like this, as that experience have put me off using the freelancer.com website forever.
This guy Aldous from the job listing (link above) has approached me in the exactly same manner, with that difference that he wants me to sell an engraving machine for him, he has the whole description and listing set, has pictures etc., just wants me to sell it through my own eBay ID and I will get £150. Sounds like a fantastic job,so I am asking myself, why would he pay £150 to someone just to copy his own text and upload his own pictures, when he can do it himself (registering on ebay is dead easy)? I have also done a little research on the internet and I couldn't find anyone with a name of Aldous Rusby on any of the social networks or basically anywhere.
Thank you for looking into this.
Best regards,
Barbora

Hi Barbora,
Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I'm really sorry to hear that you've been the victim of a scam, and appreciate you've taken the time to provide the full details so that no one else (provided they have seen your post!) becomes the next victim.
In every PPH job description, on top of the "Send proposal" button, there is a flag and at the right of said flag it reads "Send feedback for this job". That is what I normally use to report abuse. The difficulty here is that, by reading the job description, in principle, I didn't find anything stated explicitly that would make a reasonable suspicion that the job isn't legit.
Failing that, all prospective Sellers can either submit a proper proposal with a price or ask a question through the clarification board. If the answer to that question is a request to contact the Buyer on his Gmail account or he provides any other contact details, then that can be reported as abuse, as it is against PPH rules. There is typically a link called "report message", or something like this.
I hope that helps. I am not in a position to go to the police with the information I currently have about this, but we can always try to gather evidence (if there is any?).
Many thanks and kind regards,
Eva

I'm so astonished that he is still on here and with the same profile! wow. Yes I like this person have been scammed before, but through ebay and it isn't fun at all. You go through a lot of bologna for more bologna. . . . .Yes this guy asked me to sell something major for him through ebay... but first I had to give him my gmail account to talk there. If he does deceive someone long enough, it can ruin this site. I think there should be warnings at the bottom of every message not to trust anyone that suggests you go outside of the site to complete business. That in itself deterred me. But not everyone thinks as others and should be informed. This isn't a minor thing. He is trying to sell items that cost thousands of dollars. If I went through with it it would ruin my ebay account and Someone else would anticipate an expensive item and would only end up receiving a headache for his now empty wallet! This isn't cool. Now i wonder how reliable the sites safety measures are, if any. How often will people have to be complaining before he is removed? This isn't fair he's just a con--you should have a way for people to leave comments that the employers cannot remove so that the ones looking for jobs can have some type of guide far as legitimacy goes. But I looked and found nothing. Although I saw a flag. but lotta good that does. He can make a new account later.. But that's why I suggest comments aren't removable. and hopefully he can't just make new profiles... I mean there should be ways that you'll know if someone is making a new account from the same IP I imagine. But yes thank you for this message- I typed in scams and this was the only thing that came up which is surprising. There should be more safety involved in the reading material for this site. It has awesome potential and it's upsetting to see it get thrown away because of one bad egg. What about the ones that haven't been written about or been noticed.? thanks.

Hi Jennifer,
I so agree with you, it isn't a minor thing and this person should be banned. I thought about what can be done with this particular person (I don't think I am ever getting my money back from the past scam) as people seriously should be warned. I am going to report him straight in his job listing, so people are aware of a possible fraud. Thanks for commenting on this.
-
First of all, I want to tell you I will sue both Barbora and Jennifer. I asked these ladies to sell my products but I told them to send me the payment only after the buyer receives the item and leaves positive feedback. I don't see where is the scam. I am sorry to hear these ladies have been scammed in the past. but you can't accuse everyone due to your own frustrations. so please remove all these posts or I will sue you and I mean it.
-
- asking to leave the site and continue conversation through email -
- criteria for working with you is to supply you with their own ebay account (fraud)
- Filling out a post in your words for you from your location but the ientire account is in my name. If that's even possible it's still a crime. I'm lying if I do that.
- You went thorugh more trouble being on this site and finding someone to do that then it would be to have an account. But ofcourrse, ebay stops bs before it becomes a problem. You aren't doiinig well in business if you need to find people with ebay accounts so you can post something. Suing me ? with your printer/engraver/credit card maker or with your fake accounts that you made this week? If you know this much . you should stop asking people to do that, ebay would do more than sue you if you were caught having people pretend thay're you so you can sell a printer. either way it's obvious somethings wrong here. if you donn't get iit, you're being the poster child for things people all over the internet know are the red flags to avoid when decidint on what you tell people online. Mainly craigslist and ebay. Both teach us not to do anything you're mentioning, please look at their warnings about scams and fraud and you might better see what we are talking about.

Well done, Jennifer!
Dear Aldous,
I agree word by word with Jennifer above and just to advise you, that if I wasn't that naive back then when I was scammed the first time and went straight to the police with all the email communication printed out from that person, maybe (just maybe) I could have helped to catch people like you and get a little bit of justice. If you feel like suing me, please feel free to go ahead as I would be interested to see if a person with your name really exists, as I have done an extensive research (and I am very good at this) and didn't find any traces of person that goes by that name. I agree that not everyone is on social and / or business networks but most of the world is, especially if you working in Sales and on a top position (which management is), as you tend to get more business in via networking. In addition to this, I have also searched the address where this engraver machine supposedly should be stored and that place is a a coffee shop - and I highly doubt they sell those. I have also found an Ebay listing with the exact pictures and text you emailed me, so I wonder whether these are already some of "your" listings or whether both, product description, as well as the photos have been copied from here. If you are a legit Buyer on this website, I will sincerely apologize to you but as you see there is a lot of scam on the internet these days, maybe you could advise an answer to a simple question: Why are you wasting all this time creating an account here and emailing with all these freelancers asking them to sell something through THEIR own Ebay accounts and pay them £150 pounds for just purely copying "your" product description and photos, when it takes literally 5 minutes to register a seller account on Ebay. I know that, as I have two, one of them which got completely ruined by people like you. And I am not even mentioning the money I have lost having to refund an Ebay buyer for an expensive item he never got. You and people like you, should be ashamed of yourself.
-
I also encountered this person and it happened with a different user http://www.peopleperhour.com/freelancer/moncherie/event-decorator/737720?ref=buyer
She milked me for free information, placed an order, asked for my personal e-mail, milked me some more then canceled the order after I refused to give her my personal e-mail. I have sent her a refund which will negatively affect my rating and feedback. The sellers aren't protected on PPH.
I would love to block her but can't figure it out.
-
I have just been scammed! Exactly like the first post and subsequent posts thereon. A guy called 'Ethan' http://www.peopleperhour.com/freelancer/ethan/manager/815726?ref=buyer first approached me offering me an hourly rate as a sales consultant and for marketing his products on ebay. He then asked to contact me by email where he continued to ask if he could use my paypal account and ebay to list items and receive payments.
Luckily I am nobodies fool and saw through this as a scam unfortunately but I am angry and upset that it seems to have happened many times before. I cannot figure out how I can report this user or warn other sellers not to enter into a work transaction with him.Leanne
-
May I ask how did 'Ethan' contact you Leanne? I've just checked their PPH profile and according to it they have 0% jobs awarded and no activity either as Buyer or Seller. You stated you could not figure out how you could warn other sellers not to enter into a work transaction with him. I think, if what you are saying is true, you could go to Ethan's profile, just under the orange "contact" button you will find a "My endorsements" section, and there a "Endorse Ethan" link. Even when it looks like an "endorsement", once people get to read it they will realize the kind of feedback this person is getting. This is exactly what has been done with Aldous R., the person mentioned in the first post of this thread. Please remember they will have every right to sue you if what you are saying is not true. That is why, as someone else said, you should try to keep screenshots showing the evidence of the alleged fraud.
-
Well, what I did (you need to be sure though, he's not a legit buyer):
Report the scammer to PPH
I also wrote in the Ask question section (and thankfully I wasn't the only one) that this is a scam and warn people to be careful with this job listing
I absolutely hate people like this and since I got scammed, I am ever so careful when dealing with people online.

If you want to report a user the best way to do it is going to the user's profile and finding the flag under the "About me" section. At the right of the flag it reads "Report Mr / Mrs X". If you click on that link a small window will pop up, asking you to explain why you are reporting that profile.
If you want to report abuse, as in an abusive message, there is typically a similar flag at the bottom right of the message that reads "report user". Again, if you click on that link a small window will pop up and you will be asked to explain why you are reporting that user / message.
I hope that helps.

Here is an interesting one. I bought an hourlie for £9 (writing 500 words) from someone called 'Happy M' based in the UK. In correspondence with this woman she called herself Marli. I was not overly happy with the work (!) but in the end after some changes paid the £9 and was done with it. However her profile has since changed overnight into someone called Muhammed from Karachi. I have reported it but am totally confused as to how that can happen

You responded - ' Yes Paul ' !!!!
You, sir, are a liar and a fraud and I have reported you.
The website you claim you have produced for a client is a shell fake. Written in broken pigeon English, the 'site' is really dreadful, badly designed and the grammar and spelling are pathetic. You should be ashamed.
On the plus side the website http://www.duefratelliny.com/ contains amazingly stupid elements and made us laugh. It is worse than bad its appalling. You sir are a sad pathetic joke.
There are real people out there, real web designers with talent and vision. You sir have neither. Its pathetic. You are making PPH look bad and are leaving them open to legal action due to 'fraud' YOUR FRAUD. This is serious.
PPH are a good honest company and I have warned them about you.

Hello I have had the same thing with buyer 'Peter M' who listed a job listing items n EBay (yes I know, how could I have believed it).
http://www.peopleperhour.com/freelancer/peter/manager/871319?ref=buyer
Once proposal was accepted he then asked me to contact his Gmail for job details - to do a 'trial listing' for a mini digger using my EBay and Paypal account.
After foolishly listing the item, 2 days later I was lucky an Ebayer sent me a question flagging up fraud with mini digger sales and asking about using an escrow account instead of PayPal.
I cut and paste this and sent to 'Peter M' saying I was interested in an escrow account. He said PayPal of nothing so I said I did not want to send him any money until I knew the goods were delivered. After a few attempts at the reasonable route, he then turned rude and abrupt when I cancelled the EBay auction after getting advice from a lawyer friend. I made a lucky escape from being liable for £750 with seller fee.
He then said he was going to ask PPH for refund but escrow was already processed it. Next he asked me to refund via Paypal, which I did. However AFTER I processed the refund, he then sends me an irate message as the payment is 'pending' in his Paypal account and won't be available for 21 days (Karma?)
Threatening to sue me as 'I have blocked his PayPal account' versus Paypal temporarily holding the funds. Name calling followed and more threats to 'prepare for trial' etc.
When I point out he is perfectly capable of having his own account, he says he can;t sell diggers as a new seller.
As to why he doesn't start selling socks/screwdrivers/plastic flowers to build a trading history if he was legit, is beyond me.
I have sent all his correspondence/emails to Police Action Fraud

I have emails, payment documents that Arvaan T (Arvaantechnolab.com) solicited me off another site (Fiverr.come who banned their account) as a (I was) a new member to develop my Boxing Ring Chess mobile app and
N E V E R refunded me after several months of attempts. Also in my possession are emails they wanted to refund me a very low amount.
I disagreed while persistent of my due refund amount. Another email is to Fiverr.com conveying they altered thier name to re-enter their clientele pool. The individual is Pooja Patel. A very dishonest 'representative' of Arvaantechnolab.com. All correspondence was to Fiverr.com and Freelancer.com warning them of this company.
