    Hi Paul,

    Why are you so judgemental?

If you do not ask question you may not ask the buyer.

If you do not want to answer the questions of your seller you may not answer.

But, if you do not have those both opportunities it is a discrimination, it is stilling of your right for communications,

I do not know how your mind is working.

There is nothing to discuss if you can solve the problem without getting full information about it.

And if you such an unicum then let ordinary people to resolve this issues

    Regards,

    Ian

Its better if you could show a message notification with a sound alert. And also real-time updates in message thread, now we have to refresh the page to see if there is a new message even both me and my client is online.

Why some people  are so judgemental?

That's a very odd thing to say.

WIth instant messaging there will be an expectation of instant response, whether you want it or not.

I don't want an expectation of instant response from buyers, nor to have to defend why a response hasn't been instant. Nor do i want to hear my buyers thoughts about a project as they happen, nor to be interrupted by a stream of new messages while I am working.

I really do not want sound alerts either.

    This is an awful idea.

    Paul,

You are discussing absolutely different situation.

When you are in the project you can communicate with the buyer and buyer with you as much as possible. And it is good when you can ask and answer if you want.

And what is missing in communication at PPH it is opportunity of sellers to ask buyers about their job request. Very often the buyers do not provide enough information about what they exactly want and, besides that, many of them hide the information about their budget. When I look at a request, first of all, I estimate how long it takes to complete, how sophisticated job is and then I decide whether it worth doing for proposed amount or it better leave for somebody younger.

My main idea is that everybody should have equal rights to communicate with buyers and sellers or refuse from those rights. First people should have equal opportunity to do it and then decide whether ask or not whether answer or not.

    Regards,

    Ian

I am discussing what it says in the subject line.

what is missing in communication at PPH it is opportunity of sellers to ask buyers about their job request

That's what the clarification board is for.

    Paul,

That is the issue that on clarification board you can ask only 3 questions per month.

And if you really want to do a job you need to know what is required and what conditions are.

Ian, yes I know about the clarification board issues, but that is not the subject of this thread.

I really understand the issues around poor job specifications, unresponsive buyers, etc but it's off topic for this thread.

    Paul,

If you understand those issues then what we are discussing now.

If you had had the rights to communicate with buyers then you could have decided by yourself whether to ask the buyer or answer to him. Everything will depend on you and curtain situation.

This thread is not about the clarification board.

Open another thread about the clarification board, or respond to one that's out there.

    Paul,

Idea about clarification board belongs to you. I have used this terminology to make it clear to you.

It is very important to have an opportunity of permanent contacts between buyers and sellers.

It is the same opportunity as you have a telephone or mobile. Having the right to dial somebody or receive somebody’s call, you can decide yourself what to do. You may call, you may answer, you ma switch off ringtone or even disconnect your line.

It’s up to you. It’s you right.

Unfortunately, at PPH you are deprived of your rights to communicate with buyers.

On the PPH site there is no right to anything. It's their ball and they can do what they like with it.

They don't want you to fully communicate until a proposal is accepted. The OP was not talking about communication prior to a proposal being accepted.

    Paul,

I think this chart is the appeal for those rights on PPH.

If in the nearest future nothing is changed I think I will leave PPH for something else.

I think it's a good idea... lets be honest most of us jump onto skype to quicken the process up. so why not have this feature of here if both buyer and seller agree to use it! plus it's recorded too.

Why does it seem that the WOMEN here want the chat feature and the MEN do not want the chat feature??!!   Women want to communicate?  The men don't want to communicate?  I think I will side with the women....  Just sayin'  ;)

I'm new here, so what I find far more disconcerting (but I am starting to think that its endemic to the PPH culture) is that I can't find anywhere to contact PPH directly.

And I am seeing jobs like this one ~ http://www.peopleperhour.com/job/webserver-setup-installing-software-584 ~ which are seven years old!  What's that all about?

I always thought that the Internuts was about communication, but PPH doesn't seem to me to be very communication minded.

PPH has made communication much harder - there is a 'contact us' link which after jumping through some hoops a few times will get you to a form.

    I think 'support@peopleperhour.com' also works.

PPH dropped phone support when they relocated the main operation from London to Greece and I think they want to reduce the volume of CS requests.

The link to the seven year old job didn't work for me.

This would be a good feature to have available once a project has been awarded or an hourlie has been purchased.  Would save so much time.

Bad idea to introduce at any other point than this.  It is bad enough with sellers offering their services on the clarification boards - can you imagine if they had IM at their disposal!

I like to think that I'm not at the end of some string where a buyer thinks I'm around and should respond to their every thought in real-time. It's beneficial not to have real-time communication and for those that crave it so much I really don't see why existing non-PPH solutions shouldn't be used. You can always paraphrase any agreements made in the workstream.
