How can we stop people proposing on jobs they're not qualified for?

I'm a top cert freelancer, and am very frustrated that every time a job is posted for my specialisation (Voiceover Artist) the first few people to propose are nothing to do with voiceover - they're web designers etc 9/10 from India or Pakistan.


How can we stop these chancers bidding on jobs that really have nothing to do with them?


I report each one I see but nothing is ever done. Only VOICEOVERS should be proposing on VOICEOVER jobs. How hard is it?

    I get your concern here. However, completely blocking a freelancer from bidding on a seemingly irrelevant to their skills project goes against the free market economy. In addition, this would prevent freelancers from developing their skills on new areas/industries.

    In order to make it easier for buyers to rank the received proposals and decide who they should work with, we’ve created an AI algorithm with the ability to identify ‘high relevance’ proposals. Such proposals are recommended by PeoplePerHour and are marked out as being particularly worthy of a buyer’s attention. Buyers find their recommended proposals highlighted in a premium space at the top of their project proposal listings page. One of the factors that play an important role in this ranking algorithm is how much the freelancer skill set matches the requirements of the project. So, proposals sent from freelancers with skills closer to the project requirements will rank higher in the buyer's proposal inbox. You can learn more about this feature in the respective blog post.     Thanks Yannis. Appreciate the info.

    It just feels like these people are just trying to game the system, but if you've got algorithms sorting them then I suppose this isn't as bad as it appears.

    Yep, no worries Mark. We are aware of these practices, and we continually evaluate the performance of our proposal ranking algorithm in order to further enhance it. Also, we are currently looking into other ways to address this issue in order to help buyers award their project to the freelancer that best matches their needs.
