Why do we get notified of declined proposals?
AnsweredWhen I was on Upwork, I frequently wasn't chosen for a project, but I never received a notification of this. Someone else was hired, and that was the end of it.
Now, here on PeoplePerHour, I just received a notification that my proposal was declined, and it's very disheartening. There's not even an explanation as to why it was declined.
Did the guy not like my skill set?
Would he rather deal with someone geographically closer?
It he too cheap to pay a reasonable amount of money?
I can only guess. There's no explanation, so the declined notification is all of distracting, disheartening, and completely useless.

Hi Matthew,
first of all thanks for taking the time to send us your feedback!
It has been proven useful for freelancers to get notified when a project has been awarded to someone else. I know that it can be disappointing, but on the other hand it's better than having to keep track (ie check) manually the status of all projects that someone has bid on.
Please keep also in mind that this notification is sent automatically to all freelancers that have bid on a project, so we cannot really know the reason that the buyer selected a specific proposal (can be one or multiple factors) so as to send a personalized explanation.
Hope this clarifies things.

It doesn't clarify it. It's unacceptable.
Freelancers are sent job notifications. When we decline them we have to give a reason. Buyers should equally have to give a reason why proposals are declined.
Proposals take time and effort. To just have them declined, and then asked to sent in a 'proposal they can't refuse' is just insulting.
Thanks

Hi Stephen,
I am really sorry that you find it insulting.
The truth is, that these two cannot be compared as they really are different things.
A buyer can inevitably accept only one proposal (for whatever reason), so this means that all other proposals have to be cancelled automatically (there is no point really to cancel all 30,40 or 50 proposals one by one and stating the reason for each).
On the contrary, a freelancer can work on many projects simultaneously. In addition to that, the number of received invitations is far less than the proposals that a buyer may get for a single project, and therefore it's much easier to give a reason for declining. Don't forget that by providing a reason, helps us understand you better as a freelancer and avoid sending you invitations to projects that are irrelevant to your skills.
Hope the above answer you concerns.
Kind regards,

This is not about a buyer accepting one proposal, and the other propsals being automatically rejected.
It's about a buyer manually rejecting a proposal while the job is still active. There is no explanation required for the rejection, just a banal 'You can try out a new proposal xxx can't refuse'. That's what's insulting.
You can answer the specific point here: https://support.peopleperhour.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360014297158-You-can-try-out-a-new-Proposal-
