QUESTION FOR FREELANCERS
CompletedI am new to this site and a freelancer looking for work - I wanted to reach out to other Freelancers to ask what your experience has been with interviewing? I have had 3 individuals contact me to conduct interviews via Google Hangout and it is clear this is a scam - When I ask to speak on the phone they say no. Just curious are there real opportunities on this site or am I wasting my time?
Any information you can provide I would appreciate.

Hi Veronica,
There are a lot of scammers on this site and PPH don't seem to do very much to stop it. There are some very low quality jobs posted and a lot of jobs that don't materialise. Some of them are cross posted on other platforms so they may be completed somewhere else but left hanging on PPH.
If you look around the forums it is clear that a lot of buyers are unhappy with the standard of freelancers and a lot of freelancers are unhappy with the standard of buyers. Both are unhappy with the support from PPH and the high fees charged.
Despite this, there are some real, genuine projects. Getting the first project awarded can be difficult but it gets easier once you can build up some ranking from completed projects. My approach is to be very selective and only bid on jobs that are a good match for my skills and walk away quickly if I'm suspicious, or the budget is too low, or if the buyer is not clear about what they want. I am very much aware that any time spent bidding on a job that I don't get is wasted time, so I try to stick to the jobs that I think I have a good chance of getting.
As for interviewing, some are done entirely in the workstream. Others might require a phone call or a screen sharing session. Some are not what they seem. This month I have applied for 4 jobs (I think). I didn't hear back from two of them. One immediately sent me a link to a Dropbox file containing a virus while telling me it was an explanation of the project. The 4th was accepted after a brief correspondence in the workstream and that also resulted in a link to a Dropbox file, which was genuine, essential for the project and too big to attach to the workstream.
Use your judgement and walk away if in any doubt.
