Has anyone actually been paid recently?
AnsweredHas anyone actually received a withdrawal from PPH in the last week or two? It's taking so long to "process" my withdrawal I'm beginning to worry whether the money actually exists or not

I got £15 from a withdrawal last week on Wednesday but I made another 2 the day after and expected them yesterday, so far not even today either. My sister works in a financial investigation unit of a bank and I asked her advice if this erratic payment behaviour and constant condition changing is a bad sign. Anyone wanna guess what her opinion was?

@mitch same here. Just got this
Indeed, your withdrawal is delayed. I am so sorry for this matter. I have escalated your withdrawal to the apporpriate department, as to provide priority. I will update you through an email, as soon as possible. In general, we have changed the withdrawal procedure, as clearing times were needed to be added. But this happened after your withdrawal, 17th of June. Therefore this is a delay. -
I've only discovered these 'new terms and conditions' - when I logged on yesterday (after this posting) I had them flag up on my screen which, when I read them them, I couldn't find anything that specifically states the 14 days clearance etc. It only makes reference to this in rather small print on the withdrawal page... given these have been implemented recently I'm surprised PPH weren't a little more transparent with their communications.

Why not charge the client when they post a job? Why do we have to wait to get paid? TWO WEEKS. You know to "prevent fraud." Total non-sense. Is PPH looking to make money on the float? If I require a deposit, and the client pays the deposit, and it takes me two weeks to do the job, the money has cleared. This wait will cause the best freelancers to leave the site.

I submitted a withdrawal request on June 17th, expecting it to be processed in 48 business hours as they said. Now it's 2 weeks. If I don't get paid, naturally as a first step I'm going to have to start declining jobs coming from recurring clients I had on this platform. Then I won't be able to say nice things about this site publicly. It will keep escalating and other freelancers will probably do the same. I don't know how this is a good business strategy for PPH and its owner. It is not only impossible to make a living of this site based on the projects that are offered but now the site won't pay us our hard earned money (to prevent scams... ironically).

Over the last two weeks my opinion of PPH has changed. I never had a particularly high opinion of them and considered them unreliable and untrustworthy, but I was prepared to work with them. I am now delaying invoicing a client until I get my latest withdrawal safely into my bank. I requested it on Thursday and it was approved yesterday. It is still not in my bank account. If that arrives in the next day or two I will invoice my client and I will then have two more blocks of money stuck in the 14 day clearing period, but at least there are signs that money is progressing through the system.
What concerns me about PPH now, that is worse than it used to be, is the 14 day clearing period that makes no sense and has suddenly appeared. This is combined with the reports of freelancers not being paid in the agreed time, including myself. Additionally there has been a big downturn in the amount and quality of work, making me concerned that they could be in financial difficulties. I have done a bit of digging around in the public records at Companies House and found two more points of concern. In December, People Per Hour Ltd were issued with a warning that they would be forcibly liquidated and struck off the company register. This was withdrawn the following day, but it is a sign that they have problems of some kind, even if it is just poor administration and late filing of accounts. Also, a new company called People Per Hour Holdings Ltd appeared last year. On it's own, this is of no interest but I did wonder if it was a method of limiting the liability if PPH themselves went out of business. On the plus side they have published accounts up to December 2020 and they don't appear to be in any trouble.
I have reached the stage where I wouldn't take on work for PPH as a direct client unless they paid in advance. If any company causes me problems with payments I adjust my future dealings with them accordingly. In theory they are supposed to be helping us to get paid securely for freelance work but they are increasingly becoming the weak link. -
I am worried and spoke to the community manager - nothing to be fair was addressed any different to support but I was informed the following:
As I mentioned in answer to your first question, all funds are secure in external escrow accounts. Your funds are always protected from the moment that a buyer pays an invoice through to the moment that you withdraw.
With regards to your comment about payments being released, typically this should take no longer than 48 hours.

Thanks for highlighting the T&Cs, very sneaky of PPH.
I have been waiting over 2 weeks for my oldest withdrawal, and also my 2 most recent paid invoices are still not showing as available to withdraw ("The rest cannot be withdrawn but you can still use them for your transactions through PPH site"). There is no consideration of or sensitivity to the fact that many of us require our funds to live off!
We would just all like our hard-earned money paid to us please, which PPH makes extortionate fees from!

Part of the problem is that UK law hasn't caught up with this method of doing business and so PPH are continually ducking and weaving to avoid falling into a regulated category. They have elements of being an employment agency and elements of a financial services company, but we have none of the clearly defined rules or regulations that would go with either. The fees are comparable to an employment agency but we don't get the benefits of being employed or having someone negotiating with a buyer for us. The money collection and handling really should be regulated by the FCA.

I have chased mine for 16th just get the standard response.
when questioned about the new rules and why if you earn more you get it quicker I was told the following
PanosThat is a decision of superior departments. I suppose the more earning and more work a Freelancer has, then we provide more priority. It seems fair.It seems its not about security but forcing people to remain on the site or we will play around with your payments. -
I have been paid for the withdrawal I requested on 24th June (Thursday). I have been checking my bank account yesterday and today and I haven't found it but that is because there is no reference to People Per Hour. It says it is from "WorldPay AP Ltd GB". I get regular payments from WorldPay because they process credit card payments for me and I was only on the phone to them yesterday trying to find out what an unknown payment was doing on my bank statement from last month. It was actually from PPH.
My accountancy skills are not up to this. I check my emails to see what WorldPay have paid me and my bank account to see what PPH have paid and these are hidden in plain sight. -
Hi Simon,
Did you receive your funds today from a withdrawal that was processed on 24th June if so they are going over the 48 hours withdrawal timeframe again.
I was promised today, twice, that there was no delays anymore, and after the clearing process it would be the usual 48 hours. Then they went back on what they said and told me they have delays and cannot confirm when the funds will be processed.
They talk about trying to protect us from fraud... I think PPH are the ones committing fraud, withholding our money without any real excuse just to keep the interest earned.
