Invoice paid out automatically?

The freelancer that I am working with sent me a proposal that I have accepted and some days later he sent me an invoice. The job is not finished yet and I just noticed the money was paid out (I didn't release the funds). Is it normal? Does the invoices pay automatically after a period of time?
