It is clear from PPH's lack of response to all its top sellers (and now buyers too) that they are just riding the storm and hoping we will all be quiet about this.
I gave them until Wednesday this week to respond to us in a proper way and to say they were listening, but they haven't. I am now almost finished with my website and have set up AdWords and finishing the last bits of my outstanding work on the platform- which is galling because after their fees I am being paid slightly above minimum wage. I am explaining to all new enquiries (which are thin on the ground) that I can't work within their budget anymore, and have found myself three new clients off PPH by myself through advertising, and I can work within a reasonable budget because nobody is going to take 20% of my fees. I have never ever done this before as I was fiercely loyal to PPH and directed all my own clients to the platform.
It has been a hard month so far for me and my family financially, and it couldn't have come at a worse time as the summer holidays are about to start.

They haven't even posted about it on the blog. This company is absolute garbage. I will be warning people away from it. Their constant fee increases make me feel like I have been scammed. Thousands of hours working hard for clients and promoting this platform. Now they are hiding hourlies and pushing everyone into Posting Jobs. A huge scam. Still no response from them -- it's shameful.

Just had this from customer support:
Hello Meri,
Thank you for the response. Please bear in mind that a ticket can be automatically marked as solved by the system and later on close if there is no update from the user in few days.
The community management is handled by a separate team so unfortunately we cannot know when they will give a response to answers posted there; however rest assured that we have passed your complaint to the team in question.
Your Hourlie sales are based on what Buyers are looking for in a specific period of time. This is the summer period, so that justifies any reduction in sales you may notice. However, this matter seems to be irrelevant to the fee scheme issue unless you have increased your prices to make up on the difference.
We are still evaluating the change and the comments from our users and it's impossible to arrive to a conclusion on whether the change positive or negative for the majority of sellers in less than 2 weeks from implementation; there is simply not enough data yet. We will be monitoring the results and re-evaluate if needed, but to our knowledge the new scheme is not set to change in the near future.
If you have anymore inquiries, please let me know.
Have a lovely day.
Best regards,
Fortune. -
I agree Amanda - this is the usual PPH rhetoric to try and keep us quiet. My clients change daily so I am paying 20% EVERY time more or less....I was horrified when I saw my earnings dropping so dramatically,. PPH must know that its par for the course, being a freelancer, that we don't work long term for clients - albeit there may be a few exceptions.....I can't believe they have done this to us!!!
-
I have been working on PPH since 2014, and have billed more than 80KGBP to date.
As one of the top rated writers on this platform, I am appalled by this recent change. I feel completely taken advantage of. PPH already has one of the worst reputations for high fees - this is making it even worse! I love the platform, but I am really offput by this change. I have seen my business drop - so I know that my clients have reacted poorly to this fee increase as well.
Please revert to the old system, or I will be forced to take most of my work to another platform. Please? :)Jessica

Summer period? So they mean the time when everyone is on holiday leaving no one left to write content / manage social media accounts / code / PA etc etc? Hmmm if ONLY there were a platform where skilled professionals could be found on a freelance basis to cover! One that was honest, ethical, upfront and fair...
Anyone else starting the week angry?!
-
Yup, I'm starting the week angry, anxious, and apprehensive. The shock and horror are re-visited every time I see an invoice with that massive chunk of fees taken out by PPH.
I am one of the top-rated writers on the platform (top 5). I don't know if I can carry on with this platform, because the prices are in a race to the bottom and the fees are in a race to the top. I don't want to live beneath the poverty line, but PPH is all about poverty for freelancers with a 20% fee.
-
"24% fee (when you include VAT) is ridiculous and doesn't represent a good marketing ROI anymore when there are plenty of other off-platform channels that are more cost-effective"
Then, you have to also consider the fact that buyers are paying 10% in most cases. Then add on any fees you have paid for proposals and featured hourlies.
We are starting to head towards 40% in fees and taxes for a single transaction between buyer and seller if you are using those other features. In what reality is this acceptable?
Start employing your own staff PPH (presumably from some third world country), as you are no longer supporting honest freelancers.

Hello Everyone,
I am using PPH as a seller since 2010, earlier it was working awsome and it was great working with very quality buyer.
Now a days, new algorithm, keep on changing and due to that, our ranking goes down. At every step PPH is asking for Money to promote, like featuring profiles, hourlies, featured proposal. And after featuring also not getting the exact responses as expected.
There concept is good, but keep on changing the algorithm may defect our rankings, and no meaning of working since when and building a such a good profile.
Thanks for creating Feedback Community here, so that we can all raise the request to revert back to old fees structure.
As a PPH Seller I VOTE FOR Original 15%-3,5% service fee
really new fee structure is disgusting, as PPH is earning too much with this fees and to cover this fees we are in a lot of pressure to work hard and improve our rankings to get more jobs.
I definitely support for reverting the OLD fee Structure, and also resolve the quality and support for Buyers and sellers too.
I accept the @nick suggestion, let us start and discuss with some positive results to look forward on growth. @Jamie lets add everyone and discuss on this.
I guess, PPH community don't have much time to look our request, may be they did not care what buyers or sellers are thinking, they are just focusing on what they are doing. Lets see.
Thanks
Abdullah

My vote is for 15% - 3.5%
I'm also a Top CERT seller and have billed over £90k since 2012. Repeat clients are very rare on this website, and even when you have a few of them coming back regularly, it takes a long time to get to those £5k because we need to keep our prices competitive.
I'm very seriously considering some alternatives to PPH, as I honestly can't justify paying 20%. Putting that much money a month into FB and Google ads would most likely generate more business than just being on PPH, anyways, so I'm struggling to see a point in staying.
-
Im a TOP CERT and I vote to go back to the original structure, most of my jobs are with one off clients, meaning I'm losing 20% on pretty much every job. This is severely affecting my business as I work almost exclusively through PPH. Ive always made good money, but with this structure I am going to struggle, the old structure needs to come back, or at least something similar.
-
I just had to turn down a client because of the 20% fee. They wanted me to perform the work at a lower rate. It just isn't feasible after the 20% fee. I would be working at much lower than minimum wage. What's the point? Might as go work in a supermarket stacking shelves. Freelancers are being treated like garbage by this company.
-
They know this fee is not sustainable and all they are trying to do is buy time and make as much money as possible while claiming to be looking into this and carrying out research. This is a big fat lie.
The damage is already done and many buyers and sellers are looking elsewhere for new opportunities. PPHs reputation will only get worse with the way things are and it's not advisable to invest any more time and resources here.
-
I have worked with more than 250 clients through this platform, I have a 100% rating and have turned over more than $40,000.
My fee rate so far this month? 20% That's right. 20%. I'd consider myself a relatively established seller. At 20% my fees have more than TRIPLED.
Who the hell benefits from this change? 0.1% of freelancers might be better off? What a joke. A money grab, a scam.
-
Hi dear colleagues,
has everyone already signed the petition?
Let's do this :)
-
I didn't know about this Anna but have now signed it.
If PPH are not going to take note of how upset we are, we need to find a better and cheaper way of marketing ourselves - maybe we could band together and form some sort of online community offering our varied services? My Wix site does not bring in leads and I can't afford £1k for my own simple website!

In relation to website traffic, it's been tanking since Jan :(

For me, even if the old fees were re-instated, I'm afraid my trust is gone. It's time to look to pastures new I'm afraid. It's such a shame as when I set out here it was a great platform. However this, the algo change for the hourlies, and the replacement of hourlie images for our profile pics have all taken their toll. I just don't know what the logic is behind any of this - and it's all so cloak and dagger.
-
I've been a top cert seller for a very long time, and I strenuously call for the older fee structure to be brought back. I do have a few regular clients who I work with quite often, but the real usefulness of PPH, for me, is finding small clients who may only need one piece of work a year, or a one-off project that will never repete buy.
The odds of me ever billing £5000 with one of these cleints is astronomically small, and frankly the new fee structure is already causing me to source work through other services.
I will continue to throw my business to other services unless this decision is revoked.
Best regards,
Mitch at Cogshed

I noticed their Alexa ranking dropping a couple of months ago. Increasing fees won't help with that. They are squeezing freelancers and that will force the talent from the site. They will be left with freelancers who can operate on extremely thin margins (third world freelancers).
I think the site is done. I am looking for better options, as I am sure many others are. The quality of work will become lower and the site will continue to decline. It was a very big mistake.
...and yes, the changes to hourlies did severely hurt the platform. Management is too stupid to understand why. They need to hire some talented marketers and fire the incompetent ones. Your site is clearly declining, raising fees was the worst option.
Why on earth would you remove brandable and distinctive hourlies and replace them with mugshots of freelancers? Real "marketing geniuses" at work...
-
The lack of work is the most worrying thing at the moment, and has quite possibly taken over the issue with the fees- which I didn't think was possible. To put it into context, I normally sell between 2-3 hourlies a week priced at between £320-£420, and generally have about three enquiries a day. So far in July, I have sold one hourlie- which doesn't really count as it was one that was refunded because the client wasn't ready and she bought it again. I have gone from having a waiting list of up to three weeks to literally nothing overnight.
PPH recently gave me 45 free proposal credits- I don't normally bid for work- but there is no work to bid on, and nobody will want to pay the extra I have now added on due to the fees.
And this is what I have got from giving PPH 20% of my now meagre earnings this month. Literally paying for nothing.
The trust has gone, my loyalty has gone and I will soon also be gone.
-
Meri - my work has also dried up but I thought this was due to the summer holidays - I have never had to bid for work but am now having to do so. Problem is the quality of work is poor so maybe clients are also declining. So far I have been totally loyal to PPH but am now feeling very nervous about the future.
