If PPH did listen and change the fee structure back, I would continue working through this platform. Yes, I would be far more wary, but given how much this platform has helped my business flourish over the last 10 years, I would be willing to let them earn that trust back.

But they need to start addressing this issue quickly. Especially given the current thread of fear running through this thread regarding whether or not PPH is even a going concern anymore.

I've been on this site for more than four years. I want the old scheme back where you were charged 15% and 3.5% - currently with the new scheme I have paid out twice as much in fees. If PPH does not revert back to the old scheme I'll be taking me and my regular customers elsewhere. I am set to earn £2,000 this month and you will take over £400 in sellers fees - someone needs to explain how you can justify that amount. It's nothing short of CRIMINAL.

I was hoping somebody could help clarify this for me or have I worked it out wrong?

If a new buyer buys my hourlie for £995, would I now pay £164.50 (£137.125 + VAT) in commission (this was worked out from 20% for the first £500 and 7.5% for the remaining £495). Is that right?

    I think I previously paid £41.79 (£34.825 + VAT) at 3.5% or if I hadn't reached the threshold yet then £65.94 (£54.95 + VAT).

    Thanks,
    Chris

Thanks for getting back so quick Nick.

I didn't realise how severe it was a buyer asked me to send the proposal to start a job and I thought I'd work out the fee before doing it. That's really worried me now since I won't be able to send the proposal and I'm certainly not going to ask him to foot any of that extra commission out of his pocket - it's not his fault. He's probably not even aware of the 10% fee they will add on for him.

This could really be the end of work on PPH after so many years of being on here.

It's completely disgusting. I'm moving away from PPH and taking all of my customers with me.

(and you're probably right saying the customer is probably not even aware they will get charged 10% either)

I asked CS today if they were aware of this thread.  They said they were.  I asked why no-one was responding and got told the following which just beggars belief...

"As per the thread, I would like to inform you that the Customer Support Team is very different to the Community Team, therefore we are not aware of their response timeframe. We can only forward your feedback to the appropriate departments and reply to your questions via the tickets."

I have asked why not a single person from PPH from CS, Community or management has spoken out on this thread which is the most engaged thread in years.  I also highlighted that we can no longer post on the facebook page and that people are extremely angry.  I asked if there was someone in community I could speak with...

All the twitter responses I have been monitoring since this started are basically saying 'DM your address and we will investigate' but people keep saying they haven't had responses...

    "Community Team" lol

PPH doesn't have that many staff, there was a community manager a couple of years ago, but no sign of that on the team page any more (or several other staff I used to have direct contact with)

    Hey guys,

Are we no longer able to post on Facebook then? I'm just looking and I can still see the comment box?

They're recruiting for their new platform, by the way - https://careers.jobscore.com/careers/peopleperhourcom/jobs/sales-executive-cEp5z62Myr5604eMg-44q7 (for https://talentdesk.io/)

I wonder if they'll be focusing more on enterprises and such? And I'm still wondering why they haven't filed their confirmation statement at Companies House?

Just seems that something happening at HQ - or it feels that way at least :|

Actually, they are closing the support tickets without answering, simple saying Solved.

I don't find safe working on this site anymore, one day we will not even be able to withdraw the payments.

Since they are not able to find a solution to this, we will need to take the right decision for our future.

Certainly a bonehead move by PPH. Am a top cert too and feel no need to even expound further on this rip off. It is day time robbery up here. If PPH can't think about their clients as they should, the perhaps it is about time to start exploring other options. May be time to start referring my client's to the other platforms? The old 15% was still a lot, but we tried to live with it, 20%?...SMH.

I am a Top Seller with 140k earnings. The new commission fees are nothing less than extortionate. I need the fees to return to the fair rate of 3.5% or I may have to leave PPH as I cannot afford to throw almost a quarter of my income at PPH. It is extremely greedy of PPH to charge 20%.

    Hi PPH Management Team

We have done Appox £90K business here and feel proud to be
Part of pph till today without any problem and appreciate for best support.

But absolutely new fee structure is not good for existing one. Let me
Tell real example of Ebay and amazon clients. We are providing support to customers To manage Ebay and amazon account. They complain ya fees are too high. Please suggest any channel where we can save more margin.

Over all only and only PPH have authority to take any action but we are also like share holder and putting our views with strong word to think on this to safe our future as well as PPh.

I’m writing this big description because of saving our business.

I would like to say extremely sorry to keep our views if hearted to PPH but really worried about future.

    Thanks
    Dharmesh

    Morning everyone,

I've just posted on Facebook - for those who said they couldn't, does that mean that some members have been stopped from posting on there?

Enquiries for me are the lowest they've ever been this week - it's such a dramatic drop that I can't quite believe it.

I don't really bid on jobs - has everyone found the jobs board quieter too?

    @Shelley

Yes this platform is on a steep decline. My advice is you need to switch to plan b and get work off pphour. It's dying a death and very quickly by the looks of it. Don't know why they have done this but I feel a sale of business or merger coming on. However it doesn't make sense to destroy it at the same time! Unless all they care about is a quick influx of money then fold!

@Shelley, I only use the jobs board and don't get any work from hourlies. It's been dead for the last 6 months. I had gone about 5 weeks without even submitting a bid, it was that bad. Then it suddenly picked up and there were some good jobs posted. The Friday before last I submitted 2 bids, and won one of them with the other still in the pipeline. Last week I submitted another 2 and won one. These have been decent projects, more like the ones I was getting a year or two ago. There is not enough to earn a living from them but they are worth spending the time on them, or would be if I didn't lose 20% every time.

I know a Google advert was spotted and wondered if PPH have started advertising some more. It's too early to guess whether there has been an improvement or if it was just luck that some jobs that were relevant to me were posted in quick succession and it will go back to being dead.

There is still a lot of junk on the jobs board. The "5 year old with a crayon" type of projects, and yesterday I was invited to do somebody's homework for them.

Just turned down my first 'can you do this quickly' job for a current and potentially long-term client who doesn't meet even the £500 threshold.

Charging him £15 I'd only received £11.40 after the 24% comes off. With the usual rates I'd barely notice any fee coming off.

Of course that's why PPH have changed policy.

Small jobs for current clients like this isn't how I make my bread and butter, but it is how I keep those clients coming back to me - by being available for a tiny urgent jobs, and not charging the world.

I can't do that any more. I suspect that client will find an alternative now.

I am a Top Cert Seller with more than 40K in lifetime earnings and new fee structure is effectively costing me between 5% and 10% of my earnings.

After 7 years on the platform and nearly 100 clients, I have 0 clients with more than 5,000 pounds lifetime bill. One is getting close and might get there in a year. Most of the rest are in the 7.5% bracket (yes, I value long-term relationships), but combined with new clients and smaller clients my fees tend to average around 12% where they used to be around 7-8%. On a bad month when my main clients remain quiet, I fear the math could be far worse.

In other words, I am exactly the type of freelancer that new fee structure is supposed to benefit, but I am clearly worse off. I also think PPH had to be aware of this impact, they know how few 5000+ pounds clients there are on the platform. I can only imagine how hard it is for new freelancers to lower the fees under 20% and that's why I intend to direct my friends to Upwork rather than PPH in the future, although I won't change platforms myself.

So my vote goes for the return of the old 15%-3.5% scheme, and I would appreciate an apology from the PPH team for presenting the new scheme as a decrease of fees.

I am one of the top CERT sellers for Excel and VBA. This new scheme definitely does NOT work for me. In fact, I'm pushed to the point where I'm thinking of providing my services on a different platform (which is also a pain).
I've been working on PPH since 2014. Its true that I've made some long term clients but most of my earnings are made from smaller projects and one time clients. I'm based in Pakistan, so I already lose around 3 - 5 % of the earnings in bank transfer and conversion to local currency. With the new scheme, I would only be left with a small chunk of my earnings.

I definitely vote for this to be reversed to go back to the older 15 - 3.5%. It was also one of the reasons that I preferred PPH over many other platforms.

I hope this decision is reversed soon.

    Warm Regards and Thanks.

If we all share our voice then maybe, just maybe, PPH will come to their senses. This is what I just sent to them and hopefully they at least reply.

I just wanted to update everybody on the delusional response that I received. There's no point trying to make these people see sense. There is something seriously wrong with them and I don't trust putting another penny in their escrow. I'm going to contact the newspapers to see if they will be interested in running a story on this scandal. I'm leaving.

    Their dumb response:

    My response back:
