I was appalled by the new fees. From 3.5% to 20% is an insane increase. I can't imagine there's many at all that are actually benefiting from this, except PPH of course. The email they sent even had the cheek to say 'We're lowering service fees', laughable.
99% of my jobs on this site are one offs, that's the way it is unfortunately. I'd love to have lots of regular clients that give enough work that I fit into the new £5k category but it's never going to happen. I've been using PPH since 2014 (I think) and I have maybe 2 constant clients and only 1 where I keep the original 3.5% fee with.
I'm Top Cert, ranked 190'ish overall and this has been a nightmare.

I completely agree with Team Vortex above.
I've been top cert since starting pretty much and I'm usually the top end of the design chart. I have nearly 1.6k reviews (all 5star - about 3)
I do have a decent return rate because I make sure I give a good service but nowhere near what I would need to get that low % commission.
At least with the old scheme, you got to a set amount then you knew you were golden for the rest of the month to make some money.
I understand PPH is a business but feel the new system will sink a few sellers
Since the new system has been implemented I've considered putting prices up to compensate but I feel this would only push clients away, thus putting me in the same boat.
I definitely want to go back to the OLD SCHEME, please.
Many thanks
Steve

Out of 1 million+ freelancers there are only 121 votes and we think its something noticeable? millions of freelancers work here just to make the end meets. I personally am not in favour of new fee structure, but a lot of people just trying to make a living and they won't vote because its the only source of their growth and income.

Guys, check out this
https://blog.peopleperhour.com/blogroll/service-fees-just-dove-off-a-cliff/
PPH was such a great platform those days. The traffic was on par with competitors back then in 2012 2013.
PPH and elance traffic were on par those days as per Alexa.
PPH ranking on Alexa has been declining since 2013 from rank less than 1500 to now close to 9000th rank.

The new scheme definitely does not work for me and I think it is misconceived. It is supposedly designed to encourage the seller to build long term relations with buyers, but this is not in the sellers hands. I consistently get 5 star reviews from customers plus a promise to work again with me in the future, but if they don't need more work then I will not benefit. Whilst I have a group of sellers who do come back to me regularly, most do not. The reduced fees for long term buyers will never balance the increased fees of the rest.
Best Regards,
Simon

@Wings Web Media I notice on that blog most of the comments are people complaining about 15% for the first £175 and a lot of those people are still here :)
Having been on PPH since July 2009 I can remember a time when PPH used to pay a revenue share to the top ranked freelancers

I remember those days Nick! I was so chuffed to get a bonus at the end of the month. It was a real-world incentive to bill through PPH as much as possible, and truly set them apart. It felt like they were MY company.
Having reflected on this for the last few weeks - though I realise it will stunt my ability to work with new clients, and I think it's a terrible move by the company - the new fees seem broadly in-line with the major competitors. But all that means is there's no longer an incentive to work exclusively through this platform.
I think, as always, PPH have done too much, too quickly, and have failed to communicate or truly understand our concerns.
They really should reflect on how, having created the environment for cheap on-off jobs, they are now destroying it.
I'm not going to leave this platform, but I am going to sign up for competitor services and work hard to raise my profile elsewhere. -
@Nick
A lot has been changed since then. PPH was being promoted via multiple channels. I am not sure what future plans they have for marketing as the hourlie sales are almost 80% down.
I wonder when they are going to do events like this

I used to do all I could to maintain my original fee structure. That meant ensuring I had a minimum of £500 go through as quickly as possible. The sooner I got to that figure, the sooner I could enjoy the lower fees. At least 2/3 of my month was on lower fees and I worked very hard to have as much go through as possible - before starting again the next month.
I have had no incentive to do that this month and have focused almost entirely on my outside clients... why wouldn't I?
My billing for this month is £555 - compared to well over £1000 or even £2000 for most months before that. I have consistently worked to move myself off the platform over the last few months - but I always would ensure that £500. Now...why bother?

I have already contacted PPH re the fee changes. 99% of my business is one off and my fees have gone up a whopping 20% this month - I just can't swallow that kind of increase and am considering other options. I have been working on PPH since 2009 and have billed over £100k of work. Something has to be done. Surely one of the benefits of using freelancers is the ability to take advantage of their unique services for one off work - this is killing that unique position many of us offer. Please PPH reconsider and go back to the old system!!!!

As someone who has worked on PPH for over 5 years and done a lot of business on here $80,000 plus this new system has effectively ruined my business overnight. Complicated buyer fees and the new seller fee of 20% is simple unfair and achievable for many seller who don;t get repeat work from the same client. 20% from PPH plus 20% tax leaves you with hardly anything and not worth doing work on the site. I used to do 80% of my business on here and now that's dropped to 10-20% because it's just not cost effective for the amount of work required. Yes I can put my price up 20% but people just won't pay it. The old scheme needs to reinstated as you will lose many of your top cert people.
Thanks

I think they are closing down tickets now without responding! Not a single positive response from any of them. The last I got when I asked why no one had even bothered to respond to this thread is that customer service and community are different departments so customer service wouldn't comment here. I asked to speak to someone in community in that case and got no response...
