.dxf download problems

My supplier has sent me a .dxf file to review but when I download it, it turns it into a .txt file that can't be read by my CAD software.  How do I get around this?

I get the same problem when I try to download the .dxf file I sent him so I think the problem must be my end as he has managed to open that one correctly.
